i bought this set but found that the "super cat" stove works much nicer than the esbit fuel and still fits inside the pot. the pot's nice.

thanks for watching and for the head's up on the mesh bag. it does feel a bit flimsy compared to some of the others I have seen and used.

Okay, boss; here's the trick to get cold water to boil. First you take a collapseable water bottle, fill it with your cold stream water(32 degrees or so), and put it inside your pocket-gradually the water will warm up. Second, when you get to cooking set up, place aluminum foil(I use the top of a yoghurt container) inside the esbit holder. I direct the foil skyward-it directs the flame.  Third, I scratch off a little of the fuel on top of the wafer(crumbles) and light it.  Sometimes, if you're careful, you can hold the wafer(fingers over the foil) while lighting with a butane lighter-just light the crumbles. I made sure that I creased the foil on the bottom so that it fits right inside the rectangular holder. Fourth, have the water ready and never ever take the top off until your ready to pour.  Let your ears and eyes listen for the boil.  If you follow these steps, you won't use up the whole tab.(just blow it out).  Hey.  It works!.  For that morning cup of joe, sleep with your water container.  If you have left over hot water, you can refill your bottle and make it a warm sleeping companion.(hot water bottle).  Life in the bush is easy, cheap, and with esbit tabs; no noisy butane/coleman stoves to drown out the sole purpose of your trip--that is listening to all of God's little creatures. Enjoy!  Thanks for the vid.  Jb.

I bought this today. I like it. Compact and light, it works very well. I wouldn't be concerned with using two tablets to bring your water to a boil. That's normal depending on the air and water temps. Mine boiled nicely with one tablet. Using your ice water was quite extreme, so water from your bottle, filled at home or from steam and set aside to warm a bit, will do the trick. I've found it helpful with my folding, other, esbit stove to keep the match or lighter in the same spot when lighting the fuel tablet. They don't start that easily, as you found out. You could put a drop or two of rubbing alcohol on the tablet to assist in starting. Don't be discouraged by this test, though, this really is a good stove/pot combination and could be your stove of choice for three seasons. You just have to use it a few time to learn it's little quirks. All stoves have their own. Thanks for your review. Good job on the video.
