They do have Air Marshals but their numbers have dwindled over the years.

Also, Air Marshals know that there is a possibility that an altercation on board the aircraft could actually be a ruse to bring out the Air Marshals so as to engage them directly and attempt to get their weapons. The Air Marshals are going to be very cautious and selective in whether they “come out” in order to handle some incident on board the aircraft.

Am I stupid for having this opinion? Why do you give a fuck if a criminal knows an air marshal is on every flight? Why would that matter? It would be a deterrent if anything in my opinion. It's a cop out for not wanting to fund it.

Air Marshals still exist but as of today, it's impossible to have Air Marshals on every flight.
These days, many airline pilots are also allowed to carry firearms like a handgun with them during flights.
