The account looks funded, so banks sometimes approve the check, and the scammers quickly withdraw the money and vanish before the check bounces. Serenity was the “runner” caught in action—trying to cash a stolen check from someone she didn’t even know, with a gun in her purse that had a tampered serial number. Her “friends” bailed on her mid-scam. She got hit with forgery and weapons charges.
