I actually drove by the Rohwer camp in Arkansas after I picked up a load nearby. I saw the signs as I drove by so I did some research. It turns out that the Rohwer Relocation Center was one of the smaller camps, about 8,000 were there. George Takei (Mr Sulu from Star Trek) spent some time there with his family.

Nice video, short and to the point. I'm stopping by on my trip down 395. Thanks

Excellent video. I've not been there either, but it inspires me to go.
In less than 2 minutes you capture what I think is the essence of this
place, complementing the very specific shots you've selected with very
good narration (great voice, very succinct and to the point descriptions
that cut immediately to the heart of the matter, e.g. "This is
Manzanar, where as many as 10,000 people were interned, during WWII,
just for being of Japanese descent." (wow... hits the nail right on the
head) And you use pretty amazing natural sound on purpose to accent the
overall theme, e.g. the sound of the car driving into this desolate
place, the sound of the wind, the sound of the clanging at the flagpole,
hearing Reagan say, "... we right a wrong," wow, all expertly done.
Bravo.

I used to drive past Manzanar between 1978-1981. There was nothing there but a plaque on 395 and that stone shack with a bunch of graffiti on it. I think many of those structures and guard towers were rebuilt since then.

A mistake is putting you pand backyard......putting AMERICAN PEOPLE in camps was just wrong and sadly if we don't remember this history lesson we will be condemned to live it again ,

My parents, grandparents and great grandparents were there for almost three years. My mother's family was friends with Mr. Kado, the landscape architect who built the guard house in front and the gardens within the camp. My dad told me that the US Army soldiers were first armed with Thompson .45 machine guns. Later, they relaxed and carried different firearms.

Protecting them with a guard tower? German POW's were allowed to roam free in America.

The numbers the US government claims is false. Many tens of thousands of Japanese died in those camps.
