My 1992 Honda accord has 288k miles on it and has a 5 speed manual transmission and still has cold A/C I wouldn’t trade that car for anything. I know what I got a car that keeps on going.

Worked for AAMCO transmissions in the late 70s , Quite common to see with 300k on the original automatics. Toyota's too.

A problem with the distributor is the understatement of the century. It wasn't uncommon to replace them every year and any shop you took them to would test a new one on it first before anything else. The automatic transmissions in these were garbage and the next generation Accord through the early 2000s ended up with a class action lawsuit for the transmissions that came with the V6 transmissions. People see these are reliable because maintenance and repairs were cheap so people fixed them instead of trading them in like other cars that were just as reliable but repairs were expensive. Many people also bought these with the intention of taking car of them, doing routine maintenance and repairs. They weren't just magically more reliable. They simply cost next to nothing to replace a starter/alternator/the distributors that get replaced about as often as oil, hell even a motor and transmission cost next to nothing to repair or replace and just about anyone with a basic set of tools could do it. These weren't exactly V8 Camaros where spark plugs required a PHD, an expensive tool or 38000 extensions to reach the rear six, a lot of cursing before you decide it is easier to just lower the motor in the rear or pull it for other basic maintance on the rear of the motor because satan himself designed it. Japanese cars were simple and that is why they were taken care of instead of sent to the scrapper.

I have an 02 honda accord. still running strong. I had to replace the distributor because the internal seals failed and the circuitry got saturated with oil and messed with the cam pos sensor. I replaced it with a cheap chinese aftermarket and it performed horribly, so I got a reman'd oem hitachi one and put the original ignition coil in it and it works great. the vtec solenoid seals started to leak, so I took apart to part where it was leaking to put a thick layer of rtv sealant on the flattened gasket. this is just a temporary fix until I get a new seal set for the vtec solenoid. the transmission still shifts smoothly. I drain and filled it once after I neglected to do so for a while (I'm guilty). The fluid wasn't burn and it doesn't slip, so I'm going to drain and fill it a couple more times for the next 1k miles and then switch to regular intervals of like 30k miles. I did a timing drive job on it a few months ago, the first complicated engine repair I've ever done, and I got it right. I'm having issues with accessory drive noises, so I replaced the alternator and just 2 days ago the power steering pump. still hearing squealing sounds, so it must be the ac compressor. The Northern road salt rust is pretty bad on the passenger side of the subframe. I plan to replace the subframe assembly and hardware, which will be the most complicated job I'll do so far.

I don't know what it is with me and older gen Accords. I had a blue 88 hatch dx totalled in 2002. My most recent 94 white ex also totalled RIP 8/5/24. Both cars had wheel/tire packages and aftermarket sound systems. Only accords were accident magnets. The 91 civic never came close to being smashed up.
