And that's why the Dutch always complain ;o). People may think it's good, but it can be better.

I think Mark (BicycleDutch) featured that bridge in a video a few years ago.

It will be interesting to see what solution they eventually come up with to remedy the current situation.

The Filmende Fietser is very different from Jos Sluijsmans, but all the same quite articulate and informative. Different strokes, different folks!

Maybe the title could be "American-Style Bike Lanes in Utrecht". There are still places being improved.

The things that in English get called "canals" for the most part are actually moats, e.g. the moats of Utrecht and Amsterdam. They are called "gracht" in Dutch, which means moat. For example the famous newly reinstated water along the Catharijnesingel in Utrecht is a moat; it's called the "Stadsbuitengracht" or "outer city moat". I've always been interested to learn how that happened. Not a big deal I guess, but it makes it harder to distinguish them in English from actual canals, such as this one.

Love watching these videos, but it also makes me painfully aware of how bad it is to live in the UK. Outside of London there is nothing in the way of cycling infrastructure.

I love how John is gasping for breath while being overtaken by some ladies, some even with a cargo bike, just upright passing him in a high speed ...

Safety through seperation. If you keep the various kind of traffic users seperate, then there will be less possibilities of conflict between bicycles and cars.

I wonder if a ferry would be a good solution for getting across the canal given it would mostly only be used during working hours. Avoids the hill and if it just went back and forth you would never have to wait more than a couple minutes. If the ferry isn’t running or you are too impatient then the bridge can be used as a backup.

Great report! The bike the path down from the bridge was widened by one or two inches. It was always much wider than the path on the bridge. You can see the original dividing line. I think they widened it because the municipality wants to turn this route into the 'cycling highway' to Amsterdam. Though I doubt many cyclists from Utrecht would take this route, as you can just bike straight on along the Amsterdamsestraatweg, and take the much more comfortable next bridge at Maarssen, while avoiding all those semis. Nice to see DeFilmendeFietser also took you to some spots which need attention, instead of the regular 'look how great Utrecht is' tour. Though there are places worse still in Utrecht. ;)

We never going to get anything like this in UK for cyclist.
