Hike to House on Fire Ruins - Cedar Mesa Utah

To be honest, I was not very excited about hiking to the House on Fire Ruins. For years, I have seen over-saturated photos of the ruins on social media and I just wanted to avoid this extremely popular destination.

However, on a recent trip to Cedar Mesa, I found that I had about 3 hours to spare before I went back to my camp. I did everything on my list and I was driving by the House on Fire Ruins trailhead and just decided to do it. I didn't know how far this hike was, or where the ruins were located, but I figured it would be a good time to do this hike.

When I finally saw the ruins, my opinion changed. I think just years of hearing on social media that the House on Fire ruins are "ThE MoST InCREDIBLE RUinS In THE WOrlD" really made me jaded. But once I was actually standing next to the ruins, hearing nothing but the wind going through the trees, and experiencing the peace of this canyon, my opinion changed. I really enjoyed my visit here and found the ruins to be great examples of the Ancestral Pueblo masonry and engineering.

The ruins are very easy to get to, which explains partly why they are so popular. There are several more ruins up the canyon that I didn't get to explore this trip. I will be back!
