You got to have Lapua make the the brass to have a world beater cartridge.
ОтветитьSo when is the 6 prc coming out?🤔
ОтветитьThis is off topic, but what do you think about the new 8.6mm with a 1 in 3 twist? Your knowledge and thought process are right on spot. Thank you for your thoughts.
ОтветитьAaron mentioned that he's a voracious reader of past pioneers in the field. What are his favorite or recommended must-read books on the subject?
ОтветитьIf I were to build another magnum today. It would hands down be a 300 normal improved. If you can shoot 230 berger or A tips at 3100fps or a 245 eol berger at 3000. With a shorter fatter case (lapua bolt face) able to load the heavy for caliber bullets long and still fit in the mags (wyatts)is the way to go. BC'S are just as high with the new 30 cal high BC bullets as the 7mm are or better. With the proper break you can shoot the big 30 and still spot impacts.
Ответить7mm prc is what the saum and wsm should of been if they would or gave up on the shorter actions and lengthened the throat to accept the longer high bc bullets. Don’t get me wrong I love my 7mm wsm and not giving it up anytime soon. Really the prc idea comes from guys loading high bc bullets in the short magnums but running into seating issues and powder compaction issues so hornady took a short fat magnum case lengthened the throat to seat the higher bc bullets.
Ответить6 years ago, I rebarreled a 300WM Savage 116 to 7SAUM for 175gn LR competition; I soured on it though when I took it elk hunting and realized all of the wasted action length and weight wasn't ideal for hunting. I always liked the SAUM concept, but it wasn't designed for the 175's and longer in the short action.
Now the PRC comes out, and I see exactly what I was looking for in the 7SAUM- it will allow use of the 175's and be space efficient in a long action. Now I have to find a buyer for my SAUM barrel and loading dies.
I love my 7mm's. .284 Win, 7mm Rem mag, 7-08 etc. This was a great discussion. My next build may just be a 7PRC.
ОтветитьI found this podcast to be a fine discussion on the 7 PRC covering the other 7's alongside. Great job guy's. I'm really glad you commented on the belted magnums that I've grown to dislike as a handloader. Once again great podcast.
Thanks,
PRC lol Just shoot a 28 Nosler ...Better velocities than capable of the 7mm Prc and its got history of proven results
ОтветитьCustom 7rem mag and hammer bullets for the Win.
ОтветитьYou left out 7mm weatherby. I understand it's a belted case but it's still faster than a 7 rem mag.
ОтветитьGreat discussion, and fascinating.
ОтветитьElton John dropping facts 💯
ОтветитьI wish Hornady took the Long Range Magnum name. Much better than 7mm People's Republic of China.
ОтветитьI began me long range shooting after watching your show many years ago. I shoot a 7mm Sendero with the 168 Berger bullet at 3040 fps at the muzzle. This past spring I broke my 1 mile record by stretching it out to 2165 yards on a 40" target with several consecutive hits in a row, I think 6 hits. I just wanted to thank you for the motivation to get me started.
ОтветитьHey can we make some common caliber ammo so we can?
1. Find it
2. Buy more than 1 box at a time
3. Afford it
I know this is so innovative, 7PRC is so awesome, but it’s just a 7Mag with a high BC bullet great 👍 👏 but meanwhile as all this time and money is being spent on a new cartridge ammo shelves are empty. Does that make any sense? If it does your special! Very special!
Wow!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!
ОтветитьSomething about the guy in glasses is screaming audit me.
ОтветитьMy favorite LR combo is my 28Nosler with a 300 freebore and Berger EOL 195gr bullets. Load those up with 92 grains US869 ball powder and they will produce 3100fps with my 1:8 twist 28in barrel. Just buy two or three barrels at a time 😁
ОтветитьWould you select the new 7mm PRC over the 300 Win Mag in regards to performance?
ОтветитьThe books are filled with dead 7’s. 7mm Gibbs, 7mm/350, 7mm Smith, 7mm Dakota, 7 WSM and probably the best 7mm ICL. The 7 PRC will end up on this list.
Ответить.30 cal for lyfe!!!
ОтветитьExcellent discussion and information. I've owned and hunted with many of the conventional calibers from .223 to 300WM including 7 Rem Mag. Over time I settled on .308. When 6.5 Creed came out I was interested, but not enough to buy in. I wanted comparable bullet weights to my .308 but with 6.5 Creed ballistics. 300PRC came along and it's cool, but it's too far the other direction in terms of bullet weight and recoil. When I heard about 7PRC it sounded like it may be the round I'm looking for. After listening to your more in depth discussion I am more convinced 7PRC will be a rifle I'll have to own. Thank you!
ОтветитьInteresting discussion and lot's of info to ponder. Being an armchair ballistician and only having limited published data on the 7PRC ballistics it seems to me that this cartridge has the potential to replace 2 old veterans...the 7rm and 300wm. it surpasses the 7rm in all aspects and at hunting ranges generally equals and eventually surpasses the 300wm the further downrange you get...and it does it with less recoil If I'm chasing Dall sheep across the Brooks Range, I would much rather tote a 8lb 7prc up and down those mountains, especially knowing that it can reach out and touch that ram waaay over there. Any animal that you would reach for the 300wm you could just as effectively handle with the 7prc. jm2c.
ОтветитьI’m a 6.5/284 kind of guy myself but have been thinking about a 7-PRC love what Aaron has shared because I’ve always loved my 7mm. Rem Mag but thought it could have been better.
ОтветитьHow about the 7mm300 Norma?
ОтветитьIf you have 2 rifles, both same except brass cartrige size, (7 saum vs 7 prc) adjust same powder so bullets leave barrels at same velocity, why would there be different results ?
ОтветитьI'm in love with my 6.5 CM. I'm astounded at the efficiency and accuracy with the 147 eld-m at long range. I won't be changing any time soon.
Ответить@gunwerks Could you expound on The 7PRC’s issue with the throat and hybrid ogive bullets?
ОтветитьHow does a high twist rate affect spin drift at range?
ОтветитьWhat do you fully regard from the 6.8 western for an "older" hunter-plinker
ОтветитьIt’s great to have choices. I own both the 7RM and the 7PRC. If I had to keep one it would be the 7PRC.
ОтветитьI've never missed an animal because of heavy recoil😊 Hey 7mm is great, but in my hunting world experiences, 30 caliber and up, kill big game quicker! Especially the 338 on elk. But I will build and try a 7 PRC. Hey, what caliber do military Snipers prefer these days? Are they concerned about recoil?
ОтветитьYup, one more cartridge... the 33 PRC!
ОтветитьTrying to kill a bull elk at 1200yds? Are you kidding? I’m done listening to this nonsense. We have 20yr old kids taking shots at elk and deer, with 6.5, at 800 or more yards because they heard all the talk on the internet. Most of the did not get their game they were shooting at but they would try and shoot other elk or deer. Wasted animals. The 7mag is a wonder cartridge in the right conditions especially if you reload with high B.C. Bullets. It’s all about ethics. I understand these guys have a business promoting long range shooting. They make money this way. What you do over a shooting bench for long range accuracy is one thing. But when you take the shooting bench issues to the field and try to kill animals is another thing. It’s wrong and makes all hunters look bad to the non hunters. You need to do your homework in the spring and summer to figure out what the animals are doing. You have to get in the field to do this. It’s all about ethic’s, gentlemen.
ОтветитьI have a 7 PRC, but I still prefer 7 LRM from gunwerks.
ОтветитьA few hunters picked up some very affordable 7prc rifles from mossberg.. out of the box .54 grouping from hunting ammo... i was impressed. They are fun to shoot compared to 338x378 Weatherby
The money saved on not needing to develop a load...and something all my kids can shoot.. all a major plus ++++
Never had that big of a problem with belted magnums
ОтветитьAs a red blooded American..... i don't shoot metric cartridges.
ОтветитьVery good pod cast. 👍
ОтветитьI was always under the impression that the match bullets should not be used on game because they do not handle expansion well sounds like you guys use the ELD -m for hunting is that correct?
ОтветитьWow, that's the most fascinating, interesting podcast I have ever heard. Aaron is so dang knowledgeable. As a reloader, he had me captivated.
ОтветитьMaking a 12 yr old kid shoot a elk at 1400 yds says way more about him as a father than it does anything about his gun or cartridge
ОтветитьI neck size my 7 mag brass. No special dies just set full length die to size next only. After they are fire formed i get sub moa accuracy and case life is outstanding. The belt is irrelevant.
ОтветитьBull Elk @ 1200 yards wouldn't even stress my 338 Lapua . I've 12 inch steel plate @ 2 miles . @ $5.00 per round , missing gets very expensive
ОтветитьArron. Have y’all tried necking down a 300 PRC to 7 MM? If so is it worth it? That 195 Grain Berger is a beast of a bullet in that 2850-2950 FPS Range.
Ответить
