HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR COURSEBOOK
‘I have a text on page 17. How can I build a lesson around it?’
This very practical step-by-step workshop looks at the way experienced teachers build effective lessons around what is usually the engine of a Coursebook Unit: the text.
We will be aiming to answer questions such as:
‘How can I get my students interested in reading the text?’
‘How can I get them to engage with it?’
‘How can I relate the text to their own experiences?’
‘How can I use the text as a springboard to practice other skills such as speaking or writing?’
Now let us see whether I am a good mind-reader: I believe you are thinking to yourself: ‘Do all these things take long to prepare?’ and ‘Will I be able to apply the answers to the above questions to a wide range of Listening and Reading texts?
The answers are ‘No’ and ‘Yes’.
