Hey John... Just to point out 2 details: 1) Old guy and old lady are not a couple. She's an employee of his. He has a supermarket, does very well financially and he has been told many times to get GOOD armed security and he never listened. Nonetheless, wife or not still shitty move to go for the money, but just wanted to point that out. 2) I totally understand the "use your firearm" lesson, but if the guard had done that he would've probably gotten killed from the beginning. Remember that there was another armed bad guy waiting close to where the first one came from, the guard did not know that, which is why he went beast mode with a tackle, since they went entangled to the floor, that prevented that second bad guy from shooting (the bad guy in the floor was the father of the other two bad guys, yeah cute family business!). Had the guard kept distances to shoot the first guy not knowing there was another one to his right would've been fatal. I think the more proper lesson could've been "when possible assess your threat before launching an attack".

If you wonder how I know all this, I know the old guy that got robbed, I live very close by to where this happened, go to that back often in fact.
