Very nice, amazing that you got such a low swr on your crosshair, great job!

Thanks mate, the home-made crosshair does perform as well as the one that I bought. I used to hang my 10mw vtx at the window and walk up to 300m outside to test the video reception of a every antenna which I built. Not anymore with this SWR meter :)

I read somewhere to not power your transmitter without an antenna.  Is that true here?

I see a capped off connector on the coupler.  Can that port be used to simultaneously obtain forward and reverse voltages using an additional detector circuit or is it a Null port?

Do you know of anywhere where you can buy one already setup?

Hey Terence! Your video is very nice but, that is not the correct procedure to use the SWR meter...your meter is actually not working properly, sorry. You should make sure you know how to use it before posting this as it is not a good example of the proper use of the meter...
Cheers!

H Terence, Mac technologies does not list a LVL04203 directional coupler. Could you let me know where I could buy one and also the attentuator you used. Would also appreciate the complete set of instructions. Regards John

Hey Terence I don't think your TX is going to last very long, after such long periods without load (antenna).

YOU ABSOLUTLY CANNOT CHECK SWR WITH THAT ANTENNA RIGHT ON THE TABLE!! YOU WILL GET FALSE READINGS!!!also you didn't calibrate the unit.. again false readings!

at this super high frequency relationship between parts such as distance and angle is critical. Also antenna surrounding as mentioned right before wil change swr. In Line testing needs right cable length.

i like this video you have done the correct way,,,to measure the antenna...any suggestion how to measure the actual output impedance for 5.8ghz vtx . I'm a little curious the actual output impedance for 5.8 vtx..factory only say 50ohm, (but who know, the QC for the vtx ),even if have good vswr antenna , if we dont know the actual output impedance ofor the VTX , i believe the result would not be optimal.
