Played there a couple times. Definitely not the easiest course and the ranger is a nice guy. My in-laws live 10 minutes away and my FIL always uses it as a fall back if we can’t get on anywhere else when we go to DFW.

I think they should’ve given us the full effect: they should walk, and the caddy should carry the bag. My first job was caddying (at 14 years old), carrying double. Great way for a kid to learn about golf… etiquette, etc.

I remember playing at Balboa Park Municipal Golf Course in San Diego the week after 911.
The tour was suspended so the pros were off for several weeks.
On the first hole, who would my group be playing behind but Phil Mickelson and his father?
Of course he drove the short par 4, 1st hole, and looked like he was killing every hole on the front.
At the 9th hole, he hugs his Dad and walks off the course. We approached his father who was continuing to play to ask him why he left. He responded that after he shot a 29 on the front 9, he decided to leave because he didn’t want to break the course record. Sam Snead, held the record, and he was in the Navy during WW2, stationed in San Diego, and played Balboa every day. That was a gesture I’ll never forget.
PS- Snead still holds the course record of 60.

I consider myself a D1 quality short player and I only carry a 56…everything goes short
