Now that the raffle has gone 'live', can we get a hint/ detailed description of what all is going into the panel? You gave us the basics (glass, autopilot,...) Garmin, Aspen or Avidyne? Layout/mockup, etc. I'd imagine that much of the new avionics installation will require the interior to be pulled back out again for new static lines/test, GPS antenna mount/wires, engine monitor sensor wiring, etc. BTW, I already bought my ticket(s)...

Put me in for that drawing! But I don’t have the wallet for a entry, much less for on going upkeep fees… 😢

Can you give details on which stripping compound you used for the wing walk, along with what product you used for the new, seems like it turned out excellent and the last one I did, took several coats to get old stuff off, thanks.

The only caveat I see to high back seats in that airplane is maybe if it was involved in a ditching situation and the passengers needed to climb over the seats to exit. Just thinking.....

You guys are doing amazing work. I finally got my Class 3 medical, I’m getting close to being ready for the written, and I’m hoping to start flight lessons and logging time in April. Dreams do come true, so you bet I’ll be entering the raffle. Keep up the great work, folks. I’d love to come visit sometime.

There is a much faster way to bleed that type brake system. Get a screw on metal cap, the same fit as the one on the reservoir. Drill it and put a tee fitting on it. Run a plastic line from each wheel cylinder to the tee. Fill the reservoir to the top, put the lid and tee on, then fasten the plastic bleed lines. The problem is the lines under the panel are routed with some bends that allow air bubbles to stay in the high spots. With the system ready to bleed, start pumping the pedals and the parking brake handle. When you see fluid and bubbles coming back to the reservoir, it might be time too top off the reservoir. The faster you move the fluid, the more likely you are to get the air out of the hoses high spots. When the bubbles cease to show up> going into the reservoir, close the bleed fittings and test the pedals for firmness. Do this and you will end up with the firmest pedal you ever saw in a Cherokee, or any other model.

Pete the new engineer seems to be a tick every box kinda guy. Just the sort of engineer a pilot wants, but probably a bit annoying for an owner. :)

Don't worry about taking off the last original piece. Remember, it's still the axe of your grandfather, even if you have had to change the handle a time or two when it wore out...and maybe change the head when it cracked or got too old to resharpen. Even then, it is still the same axe your grandfather used.

This is a nice sales pitch for the Piper fixup and raffle but it wouldn’t hurt to include some information about the raffle. According to the link, the raffle runs until September “unless extended” — presumably until all 6,000 tickets are sold, raising $600,000. The winner must pay 24 percent of the prize value upfront in federal withholding tax before taking possession. What is the value of the aircraft for tax purposes? If that cannot be stated now, when and how is that determined? The raffle’s first prize is the aircraft plus $35,000 toward the tax bill OR $100,000. So if a winner elected to take the $100,000 then $24,000 would presumably come off the top — and Rebuild Rescue would still have the aircraft for subsequent sale or whatever, plus $500,000 of raffle proceeds.
Other questions include how/whether the aircraft will be certified by the FAA for immediate flight by the new owner or owner’s representative. That (the flight, at least) of course would entail a fair amount of additional expense depending on the distance from Pennsylvania. So, lots to be clarified, and even more for raffle entrants to consider and be aware of. This transparency is important, so this does not turn into another.401 controversy.
