why not just use the 1000 grit diamond and be done with ceramic altogether?
ОтветитьMy diamond stone says in instructions Not to use water
Ответитьmake sure you check it rob, just got one with a .0025 gap in the center, width wise
Ответить502nd Strikeforce HOOAH! No seriously the info was what I was looking for. Thanks sapper.
ОтветитьAppreciate you keeping this short and to the point, instead of padding it out into a 15 minute video like so many others do. Thanks.
ОтветитьYeah, absolutely you need to break in the diamond stone to remove loose diamonds, before using it on flattening stones or sharpening knives.
ОтветитьHow often do you find that a brand new Trend Diamond Sharpening Stone is not flat? I purchased one that feels bumpy or wavy and has worn unevenly after sharpening the back of two chisels.
ОтветитьI fuckin love your videos my good sir. Short, sweet and full of gold.
ОтветитьWould honing solution mixed with water work as well? I couldn't find the produced you mentioned. And thanks for the video, because I did not know this until I saw your video
ОтветитьI use a cheap harbor freight screwdriver that has flat sides and do this under running water so that the loose diamonds can be rinsed off and not unnecessarily dull the plate
ОтветитьWas that just a diamond sharpening stone or a diamond lapping plate? I see diamond lapping plates usually over $200 where diamond sharpening stones $50-$100 depending on the maker
ОтветитьThe wetsone will have a lot of water on it as you flatten. How do you prevent your diamond stone from rusting.
ОтветитьOMG i found the vid where that drawer started off clean!
ОтветитьThanks Rob. Really valuable tip!
ОтветитьCan you expect comparable results to the high grit sandpapers? I’ve seen up to 60k grit,
and since you only use the 16k for light polishing at the end of sharpening, I thought maybe this is an economical way of going that extra step without investing 150$ in a ceramic stone.
Question - Trend recommends use of their petroelum-based lapping fluid and says not to use water or soapy water as the metal can get down into the nickel diamond base. I don't like petro as its nasty and have always used a water-Dawn spray mixture similar to what you're using. Your thoughts Rob? Thanks!
ОтветитьBob how do you clean the diamond stone after using it? I used water and soap and it got a little bit rusty in a matter of minutes
ОтветитьThis helped a lot. Thanks!
ОтветитьHi, Rob. Are you still recommending This Trend stone as a flattening stone for waterstones.
ОтветитьDoes anyone know about the taytools 400/1000 diamond stone similar to this? It's $27 on amazon does anyone have experience with it?
ОтветитьRob Cosman always trying to sell something.
ОтветитьHey , can you please tell me what ceramic plate you have?
ОтветитьHi Rob, I did not understand what are you using to lubricate the diamond stone, would you be so kind to write it down for me? Thanks in advance
ОтветитьHi Rob, I'm new to woodworking, and I have been watching your videos very often to learn. I wonder, if you don't have a water stone to proceed with the last step showed in your video, it there another way or can be use something different?
ОтветитьHi Rob, really appreciate your tips. I am a general builder with more than a few years behind me however I recently came across your site and find it to be so informative. Know I want to learn how to sharpen my planes and chisels correctly thank you
ОтветитьI have the DMT diamond stones, x fine and xx fine and I have always hated sharping and I always used a jig after I first started woodworking. So I've been watching all your drawer making videos and I'm not sure just something g clicked and i thought i need to try to sharpen like that... seem easy. Well, i just tried it, and IM IN YOUR DEBIT! Thank u so much for this info! Ps it was when you sharpened a chisel in that series and that's when it clicked.
ОтветитьWhat's up with many people on amazon saying the 1000 grit side is not true flat?
ОтветитьAre you applying pressure when hitting that ceramic with the lapping plate?
ОтветитьYour timing is just right got one diamond stone today was planning to use it this weekend I never thought of that thanks
ОтветитьThanks that is good to know
Ответитьmy diamond "stone" just came in the mail and since its the first i was going to use this is perfect timing!
ОтветитьGreat tip Rob. But what do you do if you do not do this? Is there a test for checking for diamond chips in the honing stone?
ОтветитьDoes the ceramic stone wear out the 300 grit? I’ve been looking into diamond plates to flatten my stones as well as roughing in angles in new or worn blades and wondered if I needed a dedicated plate for each. That 1000/300 seems like the ticket if you don’t feel a dedicated 300 is required. This helped! Thanks for sharing!!!
ОтветитьThank you, sir.
ОтветитьIt looks like you’re now using a cookie sheet as a surface for all your sharpening gear to sit on. Does it happen to be from the post I shared as a solution for a mobile sharpening station?
ОтветитьI see a honing guide in the bench Rob. What's that for?
ОтветитьThanks for sharing that
