Facts⬇️
Kiwi
* Kiwis can live 25-50 years (S1c)
* 5 species of kiwi: brown kiwi, great spotted kiwi, little spotted kiwi, rowi, and Tokoeka (S1)
* rowi is the rarest, with only one natural population (S1) endemic to NZ and there were only 450 left as of 2015 (S1a)
* Tokoeka has 3 geographically and genetically distinct populations: Haast, Fiordland, and Stewart island (the daytime one) (S1b)
* Stoats are responsible for half of mainland kiwi chick deaths, as babies can’t defend themselves until they reach around 1 kg. (S1c)
Roseate spoonbill
* native to South America, costal parts of Texas, and the tip of Florida (S2)
* They nest in Mangroves, Brazilian pepperbrush, willows, and other shrubs and produce 1-5 eggs (S2)
* As with Flamingos, the pink coloring comes from the carotenoids in the mud bugs (shrimp) they eat (S3)
