The better question is why would you attack and capture mostly innocent civilians and use them as pawns?? Clearly the goal here was never for the good of the “Palestinian” people. You attack any country and kidnap their citizens in a mass terror event and you will without a doubt provoke war. That is what this was: a provocation. They did it knowing that of course Israel would respond and they put the civilians of Gaza in harms way.

Gaza has been devastated and it will take decades to recover. Hamas retained control, but of a population angry at them for lives in ruins. It is a net loss as the population is angry.

In the end, there will be no functioning infrastructure and quite possibly the people will be removed. They can't live on top a pile of rubble when the earth beneath them isn't stable. International aid gave them billions to huild a paradise but they chose a terror base instead. Only a fool would fund rebuilding for them. I don't think they will have any choice but to leave. So Israel should have a huge win.

You forgot Hamas goal to rid the land from Jews which is literally listed in their charter. Also let’s not forget that now there won’t be any Palestinians left in Gaza since they broke the peace agreement.
