As long as Chinese selling prices for EVs cover total cost and a margin, dumping can't be claimed. It's the whole idea of competition: winner takes all until the competition catches up. All the hoopla wouldn't be there if the table was turned. I admire China's long term strategic foresight and planning.

These tariffs are on top of the existing tariffs of 10%. Why the EU didn't negotiate with the Chinese to build factories in the EU for sales of EV in the EU escapes me. Build EV in the EU to be sold at the same price as imports. Now the Chinese have pulled out their investments in the EU for EV manufacturing and for batteries. The factories by BYD and CATL in Hungary have no media reports whether they will be abandoned, completed, or what? Now the EU has nothing. It has manufactured high end EV that most people can't afford so EU automakeers are having a tough time surviving. It appears there is a deadlock until the EU decides on another option, because as things stand now, there will be no Chinese EV in the EU except those that have already been imported before the tariffs were applied.

UPDATE: BYD has just announced a new economy EV called the 'Seagull' with a consumer price of $5000. That price makes it difficult for the EU automakers to compete.
