The never ending attempt of every generation since the millenial to change every word in the English language. (You will allow us to keep using the word English even though we don't live in England right??) Also, is it really fair to call this video a Techquickie even though it stretches out this subject for a painstaking 5 minutes??

Sorry hard drive means any drive that is not soft like a floppy while HDD is a specific type of hard drive same for SSD.

Also don't listen to this guy. SSDs are in no way related to ram

The term, 'PC' should mean exactly what it sounds like it should mean -- a computer that can stand alone and intended for a single person or limited number of people. All such devices, whether MAC, Windows, Linux, ARM or anything else is a PC. There is a grey area with respect to tablets and smartphones, but if we limit the term PC to things like desktop and laptop computers most people will fully grasp the idea.

It's called RAM because the data is allocated randomly where there is space available... In C, when you make a mem alloc, the return value will be a pointer where a spot has been found for the size requested. Sure enough this allocation will be in an authorized boundaries of memory for the program launched.
That's why...

I call ANY general use microcomputer designed for personal use a "PC". This includes Apple II, TRS-80, TI-994/a, VIC-20, Macintosh, Amiga.... All are "PC"s! This is different from mainframes, minicomputers or supercomputers Other microcomputers like POS terminals, Servers and embedded systems OTOH are not PCs.

I think all computers (non laptops, ipads's) etc can still be called 'PC's'. Just how we still refer to 'TV's', tablets, phones, etc. The word 'PC' is so integrated into our culture I think it would be a shame to loose it and could confuse non-computer people. This is only my thoughts though 😀

SSD's are not that random. Reads are still done a page at a time, writes are usually 3 pages for TLC, and erase is done a block at a time. This is why random benchmarks are slower than sequential.

Virus:
what people call viruses actually not virus, but malicious ware, because today malware can not copy itself and produce itself like old viruses.
so the term virus and anti-virus not correct.
and whoever still uses it they got scammed because no more viruses in 2020 era computer in modern OS.

What Apple says is completely irrelevant, that's just stupid marketing exploiting ignorant people.
What Apple sells is still computers, personal computer to be precise, and those are...PCs no different from any other,
not to mention that for very long Apple computers have been based on x86 Intel CPUs after the switch from PowerPC CPUs, and only recently changed platform going with ARM.
Still that doesn't change a thing, they're still personal computers, no matter the architecture of the CPU or SoC, so yes, the same applies to any ARM based computer doesn't matter the brand.

I like how we still often use a pictogram of a floppy disk for a "Save" button. We ditched floppy disks about 15 years ago, so there is a generation of computer users who never saw a floppy disk.

Clickbait. Why is RAM an outdated term? It is memory that can be accessed in a random fashion. Not having actually built a computer (or a PC!) in a coon's age, I thought maybe there was some new memory technology I didn't know about which is why I watched this. Maybe call it, "The origin of some common computer terms." I will be wary in clicking on your content in the future.

Same as "PC" goes for "Notebook" as synonym for laptops which was a brand name for Toshiba Laptops.
Even more common - and on top of that also wrong - the usage of the term "Bandwidth" when talking about data rate.
Also worth mentioning the terms "Switch" vs. "Hub" despite both devices are hubs. There are (or were) "Repeating Hubs" and "Switching Hubs".
...and many many more.

These terms are really not bad. Serial-access drives are still common and worth distinguishing RAM and SSDs from. Chipsets still seems like an intuitive thing to call chipsets. But maybe you should stop calling initialisms "acronyms".

Ram is random access, meaning you can address a cell randomly. In contrast with serial memory which can only be read in sequence. (I2C, SWP, SPI)
