How to Setup remote access for (TrueNAS Scale) using tailscale

Do I need to install the tailscale Client?

How does this work for behind a router? My router can do tailscale by itself or a VPN server both openvpn or wireguard. Do both the nas and router need tailscale on them?

Love your tutorials man. Easy to follow and straight to the point. Could you cover running tailscale in a container? Maybe a compose stack using portainer for say... A media server? Omv for example.

Hi, I followed all the steps you mentioned here, after Tailscale adding my TNS, and providing me an IP, I'm not able to access that IP even from my local network, what could be the issue? it says, 'can't reach this page' , could you please help ?

I followed your instructions and I see that I'm connected on the Tailscale site but I I just get site cannot be reached if I try the ip address.

I did this but file transfer speeds are so slow (2 MB/s) it says I have a direct connection though. How do I fix this?

Hello. I connected my TrueNAS server to Tailscale and the Tailscale website shows me the connection, but when I try to open the IP address, it just doesn't work. Error message: "can't reach this page" Do you have any idea what could be wrong?

in turenas core, we need a DDNS server and provider for the VPN, so in turnas scale, if we use tailscale does it means that we no longer need DDNS server and provider since tailscale will do it ?

what are pools ? I hate when someone says they will show you have to config or setup a program, but went ahead and already did other things that ar eimportant in the setup.

Yours caught my attention when you opened both Truenas and Tailscale side by side, so I watched and then carefully followed your instructions. SUCCESS! You made it simple, clear and it works.

Did everything like you did, the server is showing as online in tailscale but when I open the new up it doesn't show up. Any suggestions?

Now that i have this installed on truenas scale. How can i use this to do direct play back of my plex server?

When I put the non-local IP in File Explorer, it does not open up the SMB share folder, but instead opens up a web browser window (taking me to the TrueNAS Scale Web UI).

Also, when I turn on Tailscale (I am using Windows 10) my SMB drives (under Network) disappear and are only discoverable when I put in the TrueNAS server's local IP address in after "//".

What is happening?

Thanks for tutorial! I use tailscale to share plex libraries with a family member, how would I set this up to access my family members tailnet like I do with the tailscale app installed on my devices?
