10 Self-Tape Audition Tips EVERY Actor Needs to Hear | *How to Audition from Home*

Doing self-tapes actually really helped me gain confidence because I felt so comfortable in my own home, and felt like I could let loose so much more in my auditions and callbacks (mainly cause I get super bad audition and callback anxiety). I auditioned for a production of All Shook Up via self-tape and ended up getting the role of Sylvia! Our show is postponed until January but we are making a promotional video over the summer, which is super exciting! :)

So this year I’m going to audition for the high schools production of little shop of Horrors, and even though I will be in 7th grade ( the production is directed by a high school teacher who did theatre and auditions are only for middle to high school) I want to audition for Audrey. Even though I might not get the Role I think I would be good for it because I’m a mezzo soprano has 6 years of dance experience and blonde, and was in a production he directed last year ( so I know how he runs the show and what he expects and stuff). But I don’t know what song to sing our what to wear that will be slightly inspired be the character Audrey , so if any one has and suggestions please tell me.

Do we have to purchase a monologue before using it for a self tape monologue (if sending it to an agent)? I constantly see monologues online that say "to read the full one-act eplay, purchase it below."

Hi Kat, Thank you for the great advice! I do have a question though~ do you recommend breaking up your "audition" from your "slate"? or should you just go from your slate into your audition in one fell swoop? Would you also say that for an audition, you should try to edit your best parts together or just use the best take you have?

Tomorrow I'm going to film a self-tape for my first audition in actually 3 years, and my very first professional audition. Words cannot express how nervous I am, but it reminds me of how I'd feel before stepping onstage and wow, I've missed this feeling!

I'm doing my first ever self tape tomorrow and I like that it's a lot easier to have a quality audition because you can retake, but it's also a lot easier to rewatch it after submitting and overthink, which I really need to keep myself from doing 😬
