I would wager that the people living in the small accommodations next to the wealthier buildings were probably teachers or something like clerks for the owners. Even in colonial Virginia when you visit the still standing plantation homes they will have separate accommodations available for a teacher or some overseer type. Sometimes rooms located in the lower level with work shops but sometimes a small separate building. They needed to be near by but obviously separate.

Well done! I read a lot of Lindsey Davis' books, who writes historical fiction of this era, and programs like this one add visual references to what she brings to life on the printed page.

The Palestinian wine might not have been "experimental" - it might have just been very expensive!

I remember visiting Pompeji at an age of 17. The most memorabel things was the dog sign Cave Camen i think it stood. And then the was the house of the brother vetti . And on a sign it stood that no pregnant women and Young girls should go in. I remember when i Watch that enormous male genitals if there where that should have seen it/ it for sure the pregnant women had seen it before

Actors, Dancers, Gladiators and Prostitutes = Entertainment. This was the lowest level of society. Did the Romans know something we don't?

And now in 2025 we have a volcano heating up and threatening to erupt. Which city will be the next Pompeii?
