Chi Coltrane - Thunder And Lightning (remix by Twodawgzz)

Early this morning while still in bed, I was thinking back to my days working at ABC Recording Studios in L.A. back in the 1970s, and Chi Coltrane came to mind. I didn't work on any of her material, but I saw her frequently in the studio.

So this morning I checked out Spotify, and the 1972 track "Thunder And Lightning" tweaked my memory as a pretty good track from that time. However, the mix is pretty lousy IMO and fairly typical of 1970 productions. It is practically mono; basically a wall of sound including guitar, piano, horns, drums, and bass; her vocal is rather buried in the mix, and It really lacks high frequencies.

So I gave it a quick and dirty deconstruct and reconstruct. The drum cymbals on the right at the end bother me a little, but I didn't want to spend a ton of time picking those out of whatever instrument track they were in and repositioning them. So the new mix "is what it is". I think it's an improvement over the 1972 original release.
