Wow! I did not know about this incident at all. I usually kept up with the news ever since childhood, but since I was working 6 days a week and 8 to 12 hours a day / evening from 1991 to 1997 I missed this event. Waste of a perfectly good aircraft. Sadly, Slick Willy was not walking on the front lawn.

There have been dozens of incidents of attempted attacks & trespasses at the White House, virtually all in the 20th & 21st centuries.

This almost happened here in Brasil, in 1988 a flight VASP 375 was hijacked by a man that had recently lost his job, he blamed the president for the economic hardship faced at that time, his idea was to crash the plane in the congress building at Brasilia, the 737 200 first officer was killed in his seat, the plane was intercepted, the captain stalled the plane and performed manouvers a tonneu and a flat spin trying to incapacitate the hijacker (like FEDEX 705), then glidded towards Goiania airport runway and landed safely, other than the first officer only the hijacker was killed after a gunfight with police, there was a movie made about it but is very innacurate

In other words, an expert in the mechanics of turning a "myth" into "reality", turning an actual "UNTRUTH" into a perceived "TRUTH".
This was the man selected by the Bush Administration to tell the world the TRUTH about the 9/11 attacks.

Two minor nit picks - the Type 56 AK you showed is the military select fire version (you can tell because the selector has 3 positions, with the middle one being full auto). The Type 56 AKs which were sold in the US were, as you said, restricted to semiauto only and lack the middle selector position. Second - the "ground radar station" you showed is a VOR navigation station, not radar.

SKS type 56 was used firing at the White House. SKS used a "Duck Bill" magazine. Hard to change under stress. SKS was also fitted with a folding stock. The detachable magazine and folding stock where against Federal laws. But criminals by definition defy the law.
