Al Carius coached at North Central College (Division III) in Illinois for over 50 years, and in that time he created one of the most successful Cross Country/Track and Field programs in history. His 19 NCAA Division III Cross Country Titles are the most Cross Country National Championships by any coach or program in all collegiate divisions, but the culture at North Central wasn't focused on winning, rather getting athletes to be the best version of themselves ("Run for fun and Personal Bests").
Part 6 of the Documentary Series takes us through the 2010's and the end of Al's legendary coaching career at North Central.
The Coaching Legends project is aimed at interviewing and telling the stories of Legendary Cross Country/Track & Field Coaches. The goal for this channel is to put out documentaries like this two times a year to help preserve our sports history. These are the coaches that shaped the sport as we know it today.
