I'm actually not sure how much I liked this movie. I thought it was funny at times, and I absolutely loved the scene at the end where Juliet and Romeo were trying to talk to each other on the boat. That was hilarious.
But like. Okay.
I think that this movie tried to frame Rosaline as a petty and bitter ex and completely in the wrong for trying to get her boyfriend back. Like, of course she was going to be upset. The boy had told her he'd loved her and then cheated on her. Then Juliet is mad at Rosaline, and really doesn't give her the chance to explain herself. I wish we had had a moment where she was able to explain to Juliet what she was feeling. And I didn't like the scene where Juliet ridiculed Rosaline (and said she was better than her) for having very real feelings and trying to get back with the person who had said he loved her when she and Romeo weren't even dating. The whole scene didn't sit right with me.

Actually I know how I feel now. I just wanted Rosaline and Juliet to be friends throughout the whole story and actually talk about the situation with Romeo. Girl on girl hate isn't my favorite.

“Absolutely not” hahaha! The best. I’m certain at this point your review was more entertaining than the movie which I have yet (nor will) see. I may watch it solely for the purpose of laughing with you/being upset with you.

I'm sure if Friar Laurence had had a prominent role in the screenplay, it would have been so much better! ;-)

I just happened upon your review and, at first, thought I would cringe because I actually loved Rosaline. Like a lot. But I really appreciated your commentary. Some of it I can see what you are saying, although Capulet anon and the way Kaitlyn Dever delivered the lines was one of my favorite moments. I appreciated your not totally trashing the film, but gave us a very intelligent review. I just subscribed to you as I want to hear more of your reviews. I am going to put Ophelia on my list. - Loren

whilst i do agree that the story line was very innacurate and omitted parts of or made fun of the original play, i personally loved the movie!! i think that the director/s wanted it to be a fun and offbeat movie. they knew it was an inaccurate portrayal, but they also knew that we've had SOO many adaptions of romeo and juliet that they decided to twist the story a bit, because we all know how the story actually goes.

i also kinda liked that they didnt change rosalines character much throughout the film because not everyone changes, especially not within just a few days

i can completely understand why a hardcore shakespeare lover would be upset, and i loved your video, but i still really liked the movie!!

Completely disagree. This was an amazingly well done film.... Funny, great story, homage to the original... You can't flesh out supporting characters to the extent you are suggesting. It can't be Bridgetton which you keep referencing.

You are right about the end and the parents not showing more sentiment and leaving like they did. But they had to for the film to end in the time frame

Anyway, you are literate and enthusiastic. We see how much you love Shakespeare and would have loved you as my English teacher. Keep an eye open for my musical, Stealing Shakespeare, hopefully coming to a high school near you. Anon to you as well.

I agree the story could have been so much better. I did however like the way it ended because I had never seen a romeo and juliet retelling where they keep the original ending while also replacing it with a different ending. Romeo being intercepted before he does anything drastic but also being instructed to pretend that he did so they can both successfully fake their deaths was brilliant to me.

Hi! On an alternate matter. I just finished the audio book of Hamnet. Are you familiar? Is it something interesting enough to produce content around? I enjoyed it very much. The prose was lovely for me. Just thought I would drop this suggestion off. In case you haven't heard of it. I would provide a synopsis, but I'm sure others could do much better. You may enjoy it.

I mean the Movie from a light entertainment point of view was kinda fun and it gehts very clean from early on that this is gonna be a parody, but making Romeo so dumb and one dimensional was annoying. Imagine this movie would have been a poetic drama true to the play but from her Rosalines Perspektive, this could have been a great movie.
