This is a 'Lost & Found' cocktail video... Shot in November of 2020, I somehow overlooked editing the videos from this day of shooting.
Maybe I thought the lighting was a little dark? In any event - I thought I should edit and release it, and the others from this day.
Maybe the vermouth is the problem
ОтветитьLove your show, love you both, I'm from Maine. BUT, that hat is FAR too yellow Hahahaa
ОтветитьGet the cherries 🍒 at Costco 29.99 2 pack of the expensive ones ..
ОтветитьHow much do luxardos cost in Canada? Is this like your maple syrup?
ОтветитьMake your own brandied cherries. It would be a great video, seems like it is your style and it would be cheaper.
ОтветитьGreat video Glen! Thanks for being honest, we appreciate it! Do you think a little bit of simple syrup would help take the edge off? Just an idea. Thanks again!
ОтветитьThe problem could be that these are too "wet". For the same reason that good gin shines in a "dry" martini, you need to cut way back on the vermouth here.
ОтветитьWhen it called for Vermouth I thought to myself its going to completely take over.
Great video thanks you guys.
Une bonne idée de cocktail à base de cognac, une mesure de cognac, une autre de champagne ou équivalent et une mesure de jus de pêche de vigne
ОтветитьFirst mistake, you used way too much bitters. One drop or the hint of a drop. Second mistake, you used the expensive cherries. 😆
ОтветитьGlenn I gotta try some soon
ОтветитьI purchase expensive cherries and my favorite brand comes macerated in Cognac. I use MOST of them in my version of choco-cherry brownies. ON WASTING TWO OF THEM: you would catch me on camera fishing them out and probably saying 'no harm done.'
ОтветитьBeautiful looking drink but too expensive for my taste.
ОтветитьNice gif. Hooked me. Give that person a raise.
ОтветитьThe Luxardos are worth every dollar you pay for them. They are the best I have found, I adore them and add them to anything and everything. Your cream cheese ice cream recipes with the Luxardos. Un be liev able!
ОтветитьTry one dash of bitters instead of three to make it less bitter.
ОтветитьYa with that much vermouth I could see it not being that good, an I’m a martini fan lol
ОтветитьYou need to make a B&B
ОтветитьI can't be the only who thinks Glen could be Michael Cera's father
ОтветитьAmazon has the Luxardos.. Usually at the best price- which is still high
ОтветитьLeave the cherries out would be fine with me, but I don't drink alcohol anyway. I'm amazed at how many of these recipes there are. And how unappealing so many of them sound.
Ответить😂 At least, the cherries didn’t go to waste!
ОтветитьTry Peninsula Premium Cocktail Cherries, I personally think they are better than luxardo and half the price. They are on Amazon, but I know not everyone like to give money to the machine. Love the channel.
ОтветитьPut the cheap cherries in an expensive jar. no one will notice the difference. cheers!
Ответить212 is the area code for Manhattan . Quite a clever name for a Manhattan variation.
ОтветитьIf it's disappointing then it's disappointing!
ОтветитьThe silence after the sip speaks for it self😆
ОтветитьAlways learning things from you two.
Good or bad, you tell it how it is.
If anyone shops at trader joes they (only in the winter time) sell a maraschino esq cherry called amarena cherries, they're not as good but they're only like $5 a jar. Miles and Miles better than the radioactive red ones and a quarter of the price of luxardo.
ОтветитьI also think the Luxardo cherries are over-rated. I also prefer the cheap-o ones that you put on ice cream sundays. 😉.
ОтветитьLuxardo is expensive.....but there's nothing I've ever found or tried thats even close to as good.
ОтветитьIt would be interesting to try a different vermouth maybe? I don’t know. Was hoping this one would be good!
ОтветитьThe Vieux Carre is a much better cocktail:
3/4 ounce rye whiskey
3/4 ounce cognac
3/4 ounce sweet vermouth
2 dashes Angostura bitters
2 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
1 barspoon Benedictine liqueur
Luxardo Cherry
I’ve been a subscriber for years but I’ve yet to seen a vid where Jules has cooked. Has that ever been done?
ОтветитьWhat is the difference between the no name and the other cherries besides being several times the price? The other day i put some Dollarama Marciano in a bowl and pored a can o f sweetened condensed mil over it. It tasted amazing and was worth the diarrhea I had a few hours later.
ОтветитьI know the 212 as a Tequila, Aperol, and grapefruit juice cocktail. But as regards the Cognac, if you're mixing it with other things, I feel like a decent one is good enough. Don't splash out on the really expensive stuff. Law of diminishing returns and all that...
ОтветитьHmm, I love a rye or bourbon or even canadian whiskey manhattan, with italian sweet vermouth...And dangit I love that Luxardo cherry. It's for me, when I treat myself. Now for those with Trader Joes around. Once a year TJ's has a Pitted Amarena Cherry, which is a fabulous dupe for Luxardo and under $5.00. In some ways it is nicer as the stem is attached.
ОтветитьTry making a cognac old fashioned. I think you’d like it, but it’s imperative that you use granulated sugar muddled with a piece of orange ( with flesh included). Martha Stewart has an excellent recipe for cocktail cherries.
ОтветитьCould be the vermouth too. Each brand is a proprietary blend and some just work better in certain cocktails. I managed to stretch my first jar of Luxardo cherries out for over a year. I've been too cheap to buy another. I go with cheap or mid-tier cherries lately.
ОтветитьSeems like an overpour of orange bitters, but only an opinion.

.
It would be fun to map what you & Jules like then find the common items. Then find cocktails limited to only those items.
Sour cherries/italian amarena cherries steeped in maraschino liqueur might do the trick.
ОтветитьWell at least you didn't waste the cherries! ☺️
ОтветитьGlen, your expression after the taste test was priceless!
ОтветитьCocktail Emporium on Queen St. W in Toronto, has Luxardo...plus other specialty cherries 🍒
ОтветитьI'm surprised, since the Small Cask Brandy from Kittling Ridge/40 Creek is really nice (especially considering price point here).
Ответитьthe problem is that it's cold. i hate cold brandy/cognac. i like it neat and warm.
ОтветитьHey Glen. I too balk at the cost of luxardo cherries. To that, I've started to home make a better tasting/more appealing cocktail cherry. I have to admit, I much prefer them to the neon red cherries, but I don't think I've gotten to the level of the Luxardo's yet. Would love to see you make an attempt.
ОтветитьThe standard Manhattan...like the Old Fashioned is good as is...as it has been since there inception. No need to change. Cherries that have all of the color bleached out and all the flavor removed just to have artificial dyes and flavors added....not for me. I'll spend the extra to have a natural cherry with natural flavors....company or not. Another wonderful video....you guys are awesome. Thanks so much
ОтветитьHow would i know a cheap cherry with an expensive one?Just fill your expensive jar with the yellow label ones and save.
