Alison Young is no stranger to doing big things. As an accomplished classical flutist, she’s worked with big name conductors and ensembles, and even performed at Carnegie Hall. But when she was suddenly diagnosed with a neurological movement disorder called dystonia, robbing her ability to play her instrument, it set her on a new path that would change her life forever. Alison Young (also known as Blissful Hiker) is a solo backpacker who’s walked over 12,000 miles on six continents. She is an accomplished professional flutist who has played with the Boston and Atlanta Symphonies and recorded two solo albums. She has also worked as a nationally syndicated radio host at American Public Media. She holds a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Southern California and a master’s degree in music from the Cleveland Institute of Music.
