Government says there is shelter, but it’s infested with bed bugs, or filled with violence, and there is staff infection that spreads.

Lies and corruptions when are they really have a heart to love Canadians! Jagmeet you are responsible for this too! You kisses Trudeau's party for your pension while watching Canadians suffered! Shame on all of you!

I was 17 years old and homeless in Edmonton . Was homeless November 1968 in ( minus 30 F ) winter weather .
There was no place to go to for help at that time . I was on my own . The worst part was avoiding the Police ,
At that time I would have been thrown in jail for being a vagrant or put into a mental institution .
When I realized I was going to die of exposure , out of desperation , I went to a Canadian Armed Forces Recruiting Centre
on 103 st and 103 ave. . Much to my relief I was accepted into the Military . I survived the impossible 😊

1) We need to make the shelters safer places for the people and increase capacities.

2) We need to inform these people better ACTIVELY about the programs they can access. We need to make the shelters more social, not isolationist.

3) We also need to increase unemployment payments and re-training costs so the unemployed don’t lose their homes so quickly after losing a job.

4) We need more affordable housing in Edmonton that is more accessible to services and gainful employment. Make a tiny home project or create affordable basic townhouses or apartments. Edmonton, rent starts at $1000 a month, without a deposit - we need safe and clean apartments that are as low as $350 a month . Cheap accomodation is also in the middle of nowhere. You need a car. It must be accessible by 1 bus.

5) We must see who is profiting from homelessness and stop them from doing so

Nowadays it's cheap to build a basic simple container shelter or tiny house, without electricity and water. Homeless people can just stay in there. At least it's safe and a place to call home. Why can't you allow people to have these shelters instead of leaving them sleep on the street or in the shelter that full of violence and drug? It's cheap nowadays to make a basic shelter or shell for someone to call home and stay safe. Canada is cold, but don't have to be cold hearted!

I heard a lot of homeless people in Canada are applying for Medically Assisted Suicide (MAID). Yes that's available in Canada now thanks to the Liberals. I think their thinking is it's better to die in a nice comfortable hospital bed than slowly and painfully from the cold on a winter Canadian sidewalk. I guess that's all the Canadian government is willing to do for homeless people. Why not give them a trade in high school so they can have a job and housing to live in?

What the hell has happened to Canada? The( poverty pimp industry) is alive and well in Canada. I remember back in the 70s all around the downtown core of most Canadian cities there were rooming houses, flop houses, light housekeeping rooms, even winos had a place to live. These humble homes were torn down for unaffordabe condos. I hope that lady can get her diary published, maybe the poverty pimp industry can help.

Chaos over the calm. It is an addiction of belief. It is all we have known.. it is what feels normal.. it is what we have known our whole lives, we grew up in it. When things calm the storm is nearing. This is the result of childhood trauma or an adult abuse relationship. Jesus will calm that storm in the soul. He will love you back to wholenesss and give you a sure identity in Him. You are loved and should be loved by others.. NOT garbage Not ever in God's eyes; and not in the eyes of those who truly see. People have forgotten what Jesus said long ago, love your neighbor as yourself. Give to the poor. He is in us to minister and help heal the brokenhearted. We must never stop caring and become indifferent to our fellow man/woman. Never.

Corrections to the Comments:
AVOIDING RESPONSIBITY?
Inside HOPE there at least 10 senior ladies on walkers/wheelchairs. No media ever covers those stories.
At any time we can have about 10-15 ladies who do not do drugs or alcohol.
Have you NOT been listening to the news that there are not enough spaces for abused women? Where do you think, as a last resort, they go to?
CBC also has a great vid that inteviews one guy who lost job in Covid, and cant get back on feet.
STOP THIS "SYSTEMIC PREJUDICE AGAINST HOMELESS!"

👏Well Done! 👏
I am at HOPE myself, and yup, Kim's back, but don't give up "hope" on her!
I've watched homeless over 10 years now and it seems like the amount of time you spend IN homelessness is the same amount it takes you to get OUT.
Many runs at it must be made, but each time they go a bit further until they reach their dream.

Alberta has no rent control! The government said that if they implemented it, that would cause more homelessness! Make it make sense ffs. The majority of us are one..$400 a month increase away from being homeless. You cant keep letting landlords raise rents like this. By 2030 a 1 bed in Alberta will cost $3000 and they will probably start making apartment tenants pay all utilities. Our government should be ashamed of themselves. Our next generation is doomed before they even start their adult lives. With the cost of living, you will need to have at least 4 people sharing that 1 bedroom apartment.
