This is my first year with grow lights (LED) and my tomato seedlings (no true leaves yet) are purple/green on the top. Too much exposure to light or need food? I've heard I should not feed seedlings until they have true leaves.
ОтветитьMy Tomato seedlings have been doing great until I started adding more soil to the solo cups and then I applied the first half dose of Neptune’s harvest when the first true leaves appeared. After a week later, I am starting to see the lower true leaves start to curl and die off. I’m thinking I over watered them? I would love any help. Thanks!
ОтветитьThis explains my purple tomato babies! I'm almost 100% sure that it is because my basement is a little colder than they probably like. I'll get them out into the greenhouse this weekend.
ОтветитьWhat is your views about mercury getting into plants like peppers and tomatoes From fish emulsion ? Is it enough to be worried about ? I love fish emulsion and don’t want to stop using it 😞
ОтветитьThis year is the first time I've had purple leaves on my tomato seedlings. I couldn't figure out why some seedlings had purple leaves and some did not. After watching this video, I think our house is too cool for the seedlings because 2 trays are still on heat mats and 2 are not. The 2 that are not on heat mats have the purple leaves (not all of the plants, but some), and the 2 that are still on the heat mats are fine. I'll follow the tips in this video to see if I can turn the plants around. Thank you for this timely video! I love all of your tips, the information you share, and sharing your thoughts with us - thank you!
ОтветитьThe veins of my 12" tall tomatoe plants are purple and the leaves are yellowing in wo of the pots. Any advice for both?
Also, any advice on repelling the deer and other critters this year?
I don't have tomato seedlings, but I have cucumber and cantaloupe and I'm a first-time Gardener, so I am an amateur. On a couple of my plants I've overwatered and the leaves turn yellow and black so I snip them off. They don't have leaves now, is it possible to still grow the plant even without Lee's?
ОтветитьI don’t know what purple seedlings , so I came on this video learn what that is
ОтветитьI also read that it could also be that my grow lights are too strong for my tomato seedlings. that's my case, can I fix them?
ОтветитьComing to this video because my seedlings are turning purple. They only have their cotyledon leaves, so still very young. I was under the impression that I didn’t need to feed until they got their first true leaves? Mine are in a warmer area of the basement. Temp is about 67° and they have plenty of light. Just wondering if it’s still a nutrient issue this young?
ОтветитьMy pepper seedlings have like purple black spots on it. I cant find information on what it could be. What should i do
ОтветитьHow cold is too cold for a low temp ?
ОтветитьCan watering with cold water turn my leaves purple? That would make the soil cold right?
My tomato plants were just fine yesterday. I watered them with water this morning and the water was very cold. I didnt wait for it to warm up I just went with it. Few hours later I get into my room, what the heck ?! Purples leaves all over the place.
This is so helpful! I think my fan was blowing a bit too cold and it’s around 72F-71F in the area where my tomatoes are. Did the epsom salt help? Should I put a mat underneath them? They are purple and leaves are curling down
I did feed them once once they had their true leaves with your recommended liquid fertilizer half strength
Epsom salt- magnesium sulfate? That’s what I have
I planted them February 25 and they were doing fine until I turned the fan on (speed one out of 10)
But then i feel it helps to circulate the air, I have other plants here basil thyme peppers, should I move tomatoes so they don’t have fan blowing on them? I am lost. Ehh I thought it’s going to be easy but it’s not
Epsom salt doesn’t have any “salt” in it, so no sodium buildup in the soil.
ОтветитьMy seedlings have started turning purple on the bottom of the leaves, but don't have their "true" leaves yet. Would you still recommend adding some half-strength fertilizer at this point?
ОтветитьI think seedlings can turn purple from other reasons such as stress from cold or growing lights that are too powerful. I have had this happen twice with seedlings under grow lights. The growing medium had adequate nutrients so I don't think that was the problem. The seedlings improved when I reduced the intensity of the light panels that seemed pretty powerful. Would be interested to know if others have had a similar issue.
Ответить👍👍
ОтветитьAre you concerned about the plastic leaching into the soil due to heat and water in those #6 polystyrene solo cups?
ОтветитьSan Diego Nigeria !!
ОтветитьThanks for this, mine were purple, a good feed with Tomato fertiliser and a week later they’re double the size and green! Looking healthy!
ОтветитьI thought it had to do with the temps being too cool. Gardening is a never ending learning experience...that I LOVE!!
ОтветитьOkay so if i put some Epsom Salt in a spray bottle with water and spray it on my purple tomato plants it'll help??🌱
ОтветитьThis only happened to the seedlings I started outside. They are spectacularly healthy since I up potted them. They still have a slight tinge of purple since it's gotten hot out. The soil I up potted them into has light nutrients. Good advice and I'll be fertilizing them now
Ответитьit's happening to my grown tomatoes now too.
ОтветитьHow much porple tomatoes seed
ОтветитьShould just the one application suffice? Or is this everyday until it’s gone?
ОтветитьVery glad I found this video! Dealing with this on some of my smaller seedlings
ОтветитьI'm here to LEARN.
ОтветитьWhat temp should they be?
ОтветитьI keep my seedlings in my garage and I was told to take it off the heating mat and put a fan on them. But the last couple of days it’s been very cold at night
ОтветитьHow often do you feed the tomato seedlings at half strength? Every watering?
ОтветитьSome of my 4-week-old seedlings were getting purple underneath the leaves and now I've seen your video I realize it more or less coincides with my moving the seedlings to a different room (they were close to a heat vent before), plus I removed the heat mat AND started using a fan! I will definitely add the heat mat back tonight. Thanks for the advice!
ОтветитьThank you! This is exactly what I needed! I have 70 tomato starts!
ОтветитьCan the variety of the tomato cause them to be purple? I'm wearing purple and black tomatoes and some of them come up purple.
ОтветитьThank you so much for this! Same thing happened to mine.
ОтветитьHi! How often should I feel tomato plants of this size? I am using a hydrolyzed fish fertilizer at half strength
ОтветитьThank you so much!!!!!! edit: I’m subscribed!
ОтветитьThank you very much for this information. We live on an organic sheep and heritage breed beef farm and we grow our own root vegetables, leeks, zucchini, several types of bean, peas and herbs in the garden plus five varieties of tomato in our greenhouses this year along with chillis and cucumbers. The Skyomish and Red Portabella tomato plants had a difficult start because we had a colder spring than usual. They’re growing nicely but have started to go purple. I repotted them when I put them in the greenhouse and the compost does have feed in it so I was waiting for them to recover but I will give them some tomato feed and also water them with warm water rather than the usual cold. It’s really warm in the greenhouse where they are now but our tap water is freezing because it’s straight from the ground, a natural spring.
I’m definitely subscribing to your channel!
Thank you sooo much. I have had this trouble to the point that my plants were stunted and never got a straight answer from anyone about how to fix it. I will try this next spring and post back. 🙏
ОтветитьDealing with this now. Since 80% of the seedling’s stems are purple, it’s almost safe to assume the temperature is the problem. Recently been using warm water rather than cold lately so hopefully 🤞🏻 still added some veggie feed that has calcium and phosphate
ОтветитьYou drowned them! 😂
ОтветитьHow many days a week do you spray epsom salt on tomatoe seedlings
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьThank you for the video! I noticed my tomato seedlings turning purple about a week ago, didn't think much of it, just thought that might be normal for that variety (it's my first time raising tomatoes from seed) But, I noticed a few other seedlings turning purple, cabbage, eggplant, etc. and started realizing there was a problem. They're outdoors in Texas, 80-90 degree weather in the daytime so I know warmth isn't an issue, I'll try the plant food and see how that does! Thanks!
ОтветитьThank you for this!! Have grown seeds to plants for years in Colorado....in grow tents...but now in Alabama I did not think I needed the heat......started the heater in the grow tent tonight on low and see how they do. I have never seen the purple leaves until this year. I just think I assumed things would be warmer here.....But didn't think about the night time.
ОтветитьMy pepper seedlings are turning purple. These are the ones that I started about two weeks ago and I used the hydrogen peroxide method to start them as the season is getting late. I also threw them under the grow lights. Two different varieties and both have purple leaves. The second leaf coming in looks more green. Are they getting too much light? Just trying to make sure it isn't a disease. They are growing inside and I used seed starting soil so I'm puzzled. Any tips?
ОтветитьI live in texas so the temp is not the issue
ОтветитьMine turned purple, while using a LED grow light. I started using a T5 grow light and it changed immediately!!
