Begs the question- if you steel cased other rounds… say your 7mm PRC, what would you see muzzle vel, and what if you added 10 inches to the backcountry barrel wouldn’t you get another 200 fps?
ОтветитьBullshit!!!
ОтветитьFactory ammo from Weatherby Magnum 7mm 120gr is listed at 3400+fps. Soooooo, the 7mm backyard is NOT unbelievably fast.
ОтветитьThanks Jim
ОтветитьYou actually believe that pushing a bullet at the same speeds as a .28 Nosler or 7 RSAUM out of a different cartridge design is going to make for a barrel that lasts? That is funny...that's now how rifle barrels work. As a guy that shot F-Open for many years I can tell you that isn't how things work...but you can dream.
Ответить23.1 yard bullet drop at 400?? That’s awful!
ОтветитьThat container is just echoing
ОтветитьDon’t want new cartridges. Want 30.06 for 10 dollars a box.
ОтветитьEver try reloading steel case. Don't bother so thats a minus.
ОтветитьI'll stick with my oh so heavy 8lb Bergara 7mm PRC hmr-14 wilderness with its nice long trusted 24" CURE carbon fiber barrel 🎯😎
ОтветитьI dont really see this one taking off like 6.5 creed and 300 prc. And almost all the 7mm guys i know stick to their 7mm mags and dont bother with 7prc due to ammo price and availability. I am from canada though so it may change things up. If i was to get a 7mm i might go with the 7 prc of the older 7mm but not likely
ОтветитьIm excited about this one i love my 280AI and the thought of have great performance out of a small 16in barrel would be icing in the cake
ОтветитьHorizon is $4K before glass and pod and has a 10+ week wait. Think I'll wait until RemArms makes a 700 in 7mm Backcountry.
ОтветитьI don’t know about any of you all, but I’m done with new cartridges. Between the 6.5 Creedmoor, the 6.5 PRC, and the 6.8 Western, I have already spent near $10,000 on rifles, ammo, and reloading supplies. This has all been done in the last 4 years.
This is obviously a terrific new cartridge, but I just can’t justify spending another dime on a new cartridge. The thing is, I can shoot the 6.8 Western 170 grain Power Points going 2,840 out of my 20” barrel. Sure, that’s 60 ft/sec slower, but do I really need that extra 60’ in velocity? My 20” barrel is pretty easy to pack around as it is, even with my suppressor mounted on it.
If I didn’t already have the 6.8 Western and the 6.5 PRC, I’d be all about these new cartridges. I’ve had great field results, especially with my 6.8 Western.
Still, that is an impressive round by Federal and absolutely, a beautiful rifle.
So the gain is, comparative velocities to a 26 in barrel out of a 20in barrel! With factory ammunition.
I have seen 22in barrel PRC shooting 175 hand loads at 3000fps! I guess will have to see where the dust settles on this one.
80.000 psi whoowee.
🤔 I wonder, if these cases can be slightly reformed in a FL die then fire formed, my 280 could be in for some face lift down the road.
Man, if the shorter barrel high powered rifle is the trend now then I digg it.
ОтветитьApples-oranges….
My .300 WM delivers results…always
It’s the sure cure for all ills
Can't wait to hear the Reloading stories, with Steel Alloy cases. LOL
ОтветитьThere was this obscure guy named Bernoulli back in the 1700's - sarcasm. Supposedly a math and physics wiz - last of the sarcasm. He did a lot of work in hydraulics and fluid mechanics developing equations for relationship between fluid pressure, velocity, temperature in a system. I think he would question 80kpsi v 61kpsi, the heat which is necessarily developed at the higher pressure, and the 'no effect on barrel life' claim. At any rate, the new cartridge is a beast.
I hope Federal sells the 'Peak Steel Alloy' technology to the DoD so they can get rid of that goofy three piece cartridge case for the .277 Fury.
What about suppressors? Couldn’t help but notice that you weren’t using one. Suppressors are limited to the amount of pressure you can put thru them. A 16 inch gun with 80,000psi of chamber pressure, are we going to be shooting guns with grenades on the end of them?
ОтветитьMany.but many of these designs are the same as the South African legend Oom Chris Van Niekerk designed over a decade or two ago.
300 Tombi....168grn hornady a max at 3040fps... in a standard action!
Way ahead of this.
Don't I can live a bullet that drops 23.1yds at 400yds..😂
Ответитьsmaller diameter case head equals less bolt thrust which equals less recoil. you couldn't get the velocities out of the magnums in short barrels because they use a slower burning powder to get their velocities. faster burning powders in them would blow pressures to high for the magnums cases.
ОтветитьAnother overrated 7mm the 6.8x51 is a better choice, the steel casing is an issue to me and the actuons length is another issue to me.
ОтветитьFederal doing what Winchester won’t with the 6.8 Western. Just stepping into the ring with Hornady and swinging….. the .280’Ackley Improved, Improved! Nice!
ОтветитьI agree that higher pressures are the future. Those of who manly enough to handle longer barrels will benefit the most.
ОтветитьThe naming scheme for these new cartridges lacks art and taste
ОтветитьI really agree that higher pressures are the future. 5hosecofcus who are manly enough to handle longer barrels are really going to benefit from this.
ОтветитьWill burn out barrels like crazy high pressure is also shorting barrel life
ОтветитьAlltera firearms did a real great job at data and field testing. The Backcountry is not all its cracked up to be. A must watch
ОтветитьHard pass. Just because 7PRC is lame doesn’t mean this BC isn’t. Terrible precision. No real ability to reload? Nope.
7/300 PRC all the way.
Short barrels are for little guyz😂
ОтветитьBeen saying for a while that Weatherby could've eaten a lot of other people's lunches with a 7 RPM if they beat the 7PRC to the table. This kinda backs me up. I think this does well. People wanted what the PRC is just short of.
ОтветитьWow!!
ОтветитьTypical new cartridge release. The guys who have to have new will buy before it's dead and go back to the ones they've always used.....
ОтветитьCan’t wait to see the sand test in the wombat action 😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьSeems like we found where all the RL26 went that Hornady was counting on to keep the prc in fettle
ОтветитьInteresting koncept
Hope they Develop smaler ones
Did you try to chamber a fired case
ОтветитьChecked Horizon firearms website and prices. Ouch!
ОтветитьAnd in 4 months something bigger and badder will be out. This is getting ridiculous.
ОтветитьI been reading all the negative. Here's old saying , 'Necessity is the motherhood of invention '
Back in the day, what did the oldtimers say about going from a cap and ball to brass primer and rifled barrel. How about bows and putting cams on them .
Time change
Because bullets going too slow is such a big problem😂😂
ОтветитьHow will it shoot out of a 6lb rifle. That’s the question that matters
Ответитьprice of the new rifle offerings, add sling, scope, suppressor how much by now 4 grand? if you have a 7 rem mag who would change or get the newby? then consider what benefits over a 7 PRC or 280 AI which so many are choosing. reloading gear too. if you can see some benefits at what cost?
ОтветитьComparing this to other recent cartridge's, this is one is most likely to be a fad.
ОтветитьBut 280AI already exists, and I can reload for it..
ОтветитьWhat's the rifle you are using for the 7BC?
ОтветитьFederal got tired of being the only ammo maker propping up 7 PRC by using powder that actually lived up to Hornady’s claimed 3000 fps. They figured they could just do that for themselves.
Ответить
