You definitely broke my stereotype of Japanese people pronouncing English badly. Your English is so amazing!!!
ОтветитьThere's a lot that goes into Japanese pronunciation that isn't just a single textbook pitch accent. Dialect, personality, emotion, word stress, etc. all go into speaking, whatever language it is. Language is so complex. This made me feel better about my Japanese pronunciation. Haha. I don't need to sound like a specific person because everyone sounds just a little bit different.
ОтветитьThat is an interesting practice session. I wonder if we could take it a step further? What, to your mind, is the difference between those different intonations? What does it mean when someone has a very flat intonation? Does it come across as somehow boring or is it quite the contrary, ie. considered proper Japanese or formal Japanese. Teachers often stress that flat intonation is best. Does a more accentuated intonation mean that someone is more emotional or more casual? (I know it is quite a psychological question).
ОтветитьI've never heard you speak English this much in your videos before. And your accent sounds so natural as well!!!
ОтветитьYou have blown my mind! I thought your voice must have been AI. You sound so different speaking English and if I didn't know it was you I would never pick you as a native Japanese speaker. Oh my giddy aunt! You have perfect, PERFECT English! You also seem like a different person - it's amazing how our native tongue defines who we are, and how other languages we speak also seem to change how we present to others. You're lovely in Japanese and English, but I seriously cannot believe that is your English-speaking voice. I need a cup of tea....
This makes me feel a lot better about my shadowing practice--thank you okkei sensei 😊
Ответитьthe way you explain pitch accent sounds like you are describing music or melodies :) it’s a great way to express and communicate concepts of language. as always, thanks for a great video!
ОтветитьImagine my surprise coming to try to understand some japanese with you as usual and now you're speaking English fluently, even with a pretty natural accent! Good stuff. I feel that explains how you keep your japanese level within certain difficulty thresholds so well in the podcasts, having learned a second language yourself.
