I agree with you about ‘Upright Women Wanted’. It had no plot and it was the wrong length. I think another problem with it was the cardboard cut-out baddies. It was quite disappointing because the librarians were interesting.
Another book I was disappointed with was ‘Farmer in the Sky’ by Robert Heinlein. However this novel was written for a Boy Scout audience so I was about as far from the target audience as one could get.

The third book I was disappointed with was ‘Barbed Wire and Cherry Blossoms’. It is a romance which is a genre I dislike but I thought it was unusual enough - an Australian Aboriginal girl and an escaped Japanese POW fall in love. One major problem I had with it is that the Aboriginal family hid them in their bomb shelter and there would not have been any bomb shelters on a remote Aboriginal settlement 300 km from the sea. The most interesting part of story was that that gave an account of Cowra Outbreak in which 100s of Japanese soldiers broke out of a POW camp. They were not really trying to escape but instead they wanted a chance to die with honour. Maybe a non-fiction book about this real life event would have been a better book for me.

Books don’t get slammed enough in booktube. Too much of the people forming a collective and all having the same opinion.
You and few others are a welcome exception.

I enjoyed watching this countdown just as I enjoyed your best books countdown! I have no interest in reading any of the Twilight books, so your #4 choice is an easy one to avoid for me. Bubblegum looks like it has an interesting concept, kind of like a hybrid between Gremlins and Furbies, but it is unfortunate that it did not meet your expectations. I have not read David Foster Wallace, so I cannot say what I would think about his writing or works like his writing. It is also unfortunate that The Hollow Ones had a good concept, but poor execution. I would agree that disliking the characters in a book does bring it down a lot. Giovanni's Room is a prime example, where James Baldwin's writing is great, but none of the characters in the book were likable. Thank you for sharing! -Josh

That's a shame you didn't love Cinderella is Dead, the premise was so interesting!
I didn't end up reading many disappointing books this year, but only because I was really quick to DNF - with everything else going on, I wasn't putting myself through books I wasn't enjoying 😅

Besides having much less subs on my channel, I totally understand not having the worlds greatest of views on my channel, and I do a mix of tributes for late great celebrities and bookish videos on my channel (all puns intended on my with my bookish channel name, lol). The best of luck with your 2021!

Agreed with your thoughts on Meddling Kids. It bothered me that the author changed the writing style at random moments, like you say with the dialogue etc.

I was also disappointed with Cinderella is dead. It was a good concept but way to surface level. Also her love seemed very insta love for me.
