I think Odyssey is getting too much hate.
The ground missions are a different gameplay, but i enjoy it.
This Is the Way 🥷
ОтветитьI used to clear scavengers with the SRV, but now, unless I'm crunched for time, I love sneaking around and taking them out one at a time...
Ответитьo7. It was too scary to do my first on-foot missions, so I brought Federal Gunship with 7 missile launchers to those settlements 😅
ОтветитьWhat really helped me was learning that you could buy level 3 gear from the Pioneer Vendor. I waited for the server reset, then visited about 50 different stations and found a lot of decent G3 suits and weapons. This made all the difference in being able to enjoy the ground missions. Now I’m having fun exploring the various locations, fighting in ground combat zones, and running different types of ground missions. There’s a ton of content in Odyssey.
ОтветитьI make 7 million in 4 minutes playing a Taxi driver in Elite Dangerous, I've tried ground based missions and don't find them enticing or lucrative. FDEV still need to find a way of making ground based missions lucrative and enticing, until then I'll stick to being a space FDEX man and interstellar taxi driver.
ОтветитьIs this not the intended way to do these missions? It seems to me like if the goal it to get in and get out without anyone seeing you then it's probably intended to be a stealth mission
ОтветитьI've done one on foot mission, Doesn't do anything for me. zzzz Happy you found enjoyment bud. :)
ОтветитьThe game is a sim. Also when it comes to the on foot fps part of the game. I am really sure that you dont go into a store or a base in real life either with guns blazing. If you do you will get into trouble just like in RL. You do a criminal act you get punished. They have made the on foot missions in that way. So you shouldnt go guns blazing like a mad man.
ОтветитьFPS has never been my thing. Maybe if there were more options in on foot game play style, I’d be able to find something I enjoy.
I’m satisfied with the missile launcher approach until I get some half decent gear and a few engineers unlocked. Then we’ll see.
Side note: I have read (and to some degree experienced) that locked settlement lockers don’t seem to have much actually usable materials. Once you’ve stocked up on the few useful things that are in the locked lockers of each settlement type, you can probably just waltz past them without bothering. Locked boxes in settlements are even worse. And I think the damage can actually draw attention to there being someone pillaging, causing the guards to start attacking anything that moves.
I'm sort of tired of hearing, the much repeated, how terrible Elite Dangerous Odyssey AI is. I mean what FPS are you guys playing with this absolutely amazing AI? I'd actually love to know... I'm an FPS lover, tho I do dabble in 3rd person shooters. Is Elite's AI amazing? No. Is it bad? No. To be fair I'm only considering it's AI in combat because that's what matters to me. It can be as stupid as it wants in a station.
In combat it actually does some smart things, sometimes. They avoid choke points, break for cover when their shields pop (sometimes full on squad retreat and reposition), higher ranked units that use rockets lead you (as do snipers), they quick swap between secondary weapon for a kill shot usually a tormentor instead of reloading. I mean the list goes on-- I'd be glad to list more.
While there is always room for improvement with AI I'm just at a loss for what AI people could possibly be comparing it to because as someone who loves FPS, admittedly primarily pvp, I'm at times legitimately impressed by it in Elite. Especially when I have an AI side step my shots or strafe left and right to try and throw me off. Pretty much every shooter AI can be cheesed and Elite is no different however what we have isn't particularly bad. My opinion is that the majority of players in Elite don't play shooters, particularly FPS so they don't actually know how bad AI can get in shooters. Someone, Yamiks most likely, said the AI was terrible so now everyone just repeats that the AI is terrible. Again it isn't some amazing ground breaking AI but it does have a few tricks that at times make me smile.
Are there pathing issues here and there? Sure but mostly in stations and not in active combat. I've never seen an NPC perma sprint into a box or wall-- I've seen them break and stand still tho in elite which IMO is better.
Ultimately I'm not trying to shit on your content, I just kind of dig Odyssey gameplay and I'm glad you found a way to do it that you don't hate. I like doing it that way too sometimes and it's how I initially did it. It's true the credits pay is low, but you don't do them for credits. It's all about the materials for mods. Ok rant over.
Some of the most fun I have had is playing nonviolent missions together with a friend, especially since we discovered you can get one person to distract the NPCs by suddenly breaking out in a tap dance or just waving and pointing at them, while the other person does the illegal thing unnoticed, because everyone is looking at the weirdo.
ОтветитьYou're quickly becoming my ED go-to channel (this side of Buur, of course) The game needs folks like you to come to the fore as some others have gotten stale, always looking to trash ED for the sake of clicks.
ОтветитьStealth Is The Way!
I love playing the stealth missions. They were tough at first but now I can get in and out of most places without incident. And it is so much fun!
I love on foot missions on elite, but my big problem with them is that the items i need are only offered by missions that ask you to assassinate a bunchload of npcs that will increase your bounty against the controllin faction of the space station issuin the mission, the problem with that is that when you want claim your reward you cant cause the station turns extremelly hostile to you and you cant claim the reward nowhere else.
ОтветитьIf you're having fun, you're playing the game right. The last 1 billion credits I earned before buying a fleet carrier took me 7 weeks. It was the most fun billion I ever made. I did some pirate massacre mission in Colonia, passenger missions in Colonia, core and laser mining in Colonia and the last half billion came from exploration data sales resulting from my trip beyond beagle point to Ishums Reach and back through the Abyss via Far Oasis.
I remember this every time I dock at my carrier.
I love on foot missions because I never try to outsmart the ai. I always play a way I see fun and if I get bored I move on.
ОтветитьI like odessy mission. I some time like to get in a fighter and to air attack. NPC are hard to it but it is fun.
ОтветитьThere is more than 2 ways playing on-foot. You also can trigger an alarm in a building at the oposite of your target and while security is moving to the building your target is easier to reach.
ОтветитьStealth is the way for sure. I once took out every single NPC in a high security military base in my Mav suit, using only the zapper tool. It took me 2-3 hours and was such a load of fun gameplay.
ОтветитьOddly the stealth aspect is the ONE part I hate, everything else is a blast of minty fresh vacuum. But, it must be admitted they're serving a tiny niche, the low APM cover and strategic focused FPS genre. Halo as opposed to Halo 2, Dust 514 as opposed to call of duty. They deliberately left the overwatch/fortnite money on the table.
ОтветитьI repudiate the notion that Elite’s FPS combat is poorly done. That may be a judgement from those people who play a lot of contemporary specialised FPS games, but for someone like me who hasn’t played much FPS since the original Crysis in 2008, FPS in Elite is just fine and a lot of fun. Yes, even running and gunning. And I love the fully engineered TK Zenith laser pistol and the AR-50 kinetic battlefield rifle (both with extra range and extended mags). In fact they’re my only weapons.
ОтветитьOne thing I also like about the on foot missions.
It's much easier to do illegal missions (like the ones usually given out from an anarchy faction) without getting a bounty as you can usually do the stealth approach.
That's, in my experience, a lot more tricky in ship based missions
I kill them all with my fists, from stealth. It's also entertaining... It's a pity that the players are the ones who have to find a way to make it entertaining
ОтветитьI fully agree. This game is a space sim with a lot of on foot fun. Don't think you are playing a FPS game.
ОтветитьAlso in addition, Some systems have wars going on within them and these wars have a ranging difficulty, You take a side and fight like a mercenary, its a great way as high difficulty ones can lend you millions when done and its a good way to increase your rep with any faction you want, Hardest part is finding the systems that have planets with wars and the specific faction. I did them with my friend and made millions
ОтветитьI have done the same thing it can be great fun
ОтветитьI actually like the combat the way it is. I don't play any FPS games so I don't even want the AI to be too good. I'd rather feel good myself by killing all NPCs in stealth mode or by just blasting my way in. :-)
ОтветитьJust like Skyrim VR is an archery game, elite dangerous on foot missions are a stealth game.
ОтветитьI enjoy the missions.
ОтветитьThe rewards for missions SUCK. They outright ABSOLUTELY SUCK. Here's a nice comparison: I can travel to a system, land on a planet and scan 3 types of biology and get nearly 60,000,000 if I pick the right plants, this maybe takes me about 45 minutes give or take... Then I go to do an on-foot mission at a settlement, it takes me OVER 45 minutes to get anything done (including travel time) and by the time I've completed the mission, I get either 100,000 credits or a TINY material reward. It's so unbalanced, you should never need to do on-foot missions. There's zero incentive besides "fun", which lets face it - It's not full of.
ОтветитьYeah, you're definitely my favorite E:D guy now. I like when people try different approaches instead of just rehashing what they know from other games. It's entirely possible Frontier meant for Odyssey to be more about stealth and that all the complainers were just blasting away.
ОтветитьHow tf do u get out of your ship and walk on foot?!!
ОтветитьI would say that on foot missions in Elite Dangerous are mot the puzzle game of Hitman, than fist person shooter like Call of Duty.
It could be argued that combat zones could be more like Call of Duty, but they are very light weight first person shooters, perfect for a break from puzzling on foot missions or ship flying.
