Can’t believe that no one is bringing up how the villain’s plan is just redundant 🥦 :

1. He could’ve simply provided the president with the pills, and totally skipped the rest of the plan.

2. The rest of the plot makes the plan even worse, cos it implies he could’ve also just mind controlled the president, and again, skipped the rest of the plan.

Same outcome. I guess his giant brain was overthinking it…

I saw the movie and it's not bad at all. We're never going to get back to the level Marvel was in its heyday, but this was a decent film. I liked the story (for the most part) but admit that I was a bit in the dark because the only MCU movie I never bothered to watch was the 2008 Hulk movie 😬. I figured it out for the most part but still, it's strange to call it all the way back to the pre-Ironman side of the MCU. I do think they need to work in some kind of version of the serum for Sam, only because the way he gets stabbed, thrown through concrete wall, etc. just doesn't seem like it will hold up in the long run.

No offense to Anthony Mackie, but I just don’t think the dude can carry Captain America after Chris Evans. When you watched the previous Captain America movie, he showed leadership from rescuing Bucky to end game. But after falcon took over the shield, the audience just not buying it

The fact that they actually had the gall to bring the Leader, a Hulk villain, back after ten years (?) is wild. And I will never get over how Sam isn't getting bodied by a Hulk of any color.

Think it also comes down to he is captain America fighting hulk villains. Doesn't really hit the same mark, its like wolverine fighting green goblin match up makes no sense.

Its refreshing to hear actual criticism of the movie that has nothing to do with race. The ones crying about "DEI" and "Woke" should not be taken seriously.

This movie was great, the hate train was expected from a lot of “marvel fans”. I knew to watch it for myself.

All these years later and Winter Soldier is still the benchmark for great Marvel films. Interesting plot, character progression for the protagonist, a unique villain that doesn’t use a super laser: it really did have everything.

Can we talk about congressman Bucky Barnes? Wtf was that?

In a world where a giant extraterrestrial body is sticking out of the ocean, and not fucking up anything to do with the earth, we can probably get around some extreme intelligence human figuring out how to control the brain with light and sound.

It’s a superhero movie, it’s supposed to be fun and for kids, not deep and make a ton of sense.

Personally, I thought it was a turn in the right direction for marvel and the shit they’ve been releasing lately. It was a fun movie, I just can’t get behind Sam being Captain America, but you know… comics and stuff. I do agree with Marvel fucking up and spoiling the big red hulk plot point in the trailers. Imagine the shock value that most marvel movies are missing now a days. If I could I would wipe my memory of any trailer or poster art so I can be surprised at that point of the movie.

Falcon was cool until he made it about politics and agendas.

Yeah I have no reason as to why they hid red hulk until the final 10 minutes when we ALREADY knew, this movie used red hulk heavy in the marketing and he was legit in it for like 5-10 mins

Captain African American is no Captain America.

Oh, come on, Steve barely changes at all in any of the movies. Sure, he becomes less trustful of government oversight, but that's due to external reveals of organizations like Hydra manipulating the government. Steve himself was never just a soldier blindly following orders, he was always a man defined by his strong moral values and desire to protect others, even if it flew in the face of orders. It's the whole reason he was picked for the job in the first movie, and why in the second he was at the top of Hydra's list of people to eliminate even before he found out they were pulling the strings.

Not every hero is defined by a transformative character arc, and to pretend it's a requirement of a good story is incredibly disingenuous.

Also, gee for such a failure of a movie, Brave New World not only opened #1, but it held onto that rank for its second week as well. Even its critical reception is just under 50%, which while not good, but it's not the worst reviewed MCU film either. Not to mention it's scoring far more favorable with audiences, not a smash hit, but middle of the road at worst by the standards of other MCU films.

The movie is certainly flawed in more ways than one, but it's absolutely in no way a failure by any objective measure. At worst, it's a lighthearted popcorn flick without much deeper meaning to contemplate after it's over.

It's a failure because it's miscast.

The movie had my eyebrows raised at like the very first moments when Sam landed on the ground and saying "wait for it", after diving headfirst for it from a significant height. He's just a regular dude and shouldn't be able to take that force.

Besides that, I quite enjoyed the movie and I think the action setpiece above the Indian Ocean was cool as hell

I wish they had put tighter limits on the vibranium absorption effects. Since the quantity has roughly been established as well it feels way too OP now. Wakanda or America if they find another deposit at the bottom of the ocean could theoretically make a small army of soldiers capable of fighting hulk without dying instantly

I agree, basically the entire movie from the character to the story felt like Winter Solider from Wish . Worse than the original in every way

In my opinion, the plot of this movie shouldve been the plot from Falcon and the Winter soldier, though obviously just written better than in that show. It wouldve better transitioned Falcon for the mantle of captain America for the general audience, instead of making people do their homework before watching this film. Plus the themes of the government placing the role of Captain America on John Walker reinforces the themes that the title “Brave New World” implies.

Part of Sam wilsons issue is how little character he actually has, outside of being Steves friend what was he? They failed to give him an interesting story and there was an interesting story there. Imagine if Steve chose bucky to take up the mantle. First off not much would change ability wise due to both being super soldiers but buck would also have the arm to help. It would also give bucky a way to amend for his past as the winter soldier and would give him an interesting arc of feeling like he didnt deserve the shield to coming to accept his role

Excellent breakdown I thought the brain wash idea didn't make sense maybe he solders around him but the secret service officer and Isaiah didn't make sense

Half of its failure is due to Mackie running his mouth disrespecting America... I'm glad it failed... Up yours Mackie...

This movie felt like Cap was in someone else's movie and didn't know what to do.
And wouldn't it make more sense for Betty to calm Ross down than Sam. Ross wanted to talk to her the whole movie.
