I was born in Miami in '69 and grew up boating and fishing all through Biscayne Bay. As a teen I was in a sailing club, and used to race in a lot of the regattas there, especially the Colombus Day Regatta. Even then there were an estimated 2,000 or so boats involved in that, with Elliot Key as the destination.
Now? Who knows how many. There are probably that many boats on an average weekend. It is too much. Too many people, too many boats and not enough love for this beautiful area.
I moved to the other coast 25 yrs ago, which was less populated, but it's starting to fill up. People want to live the "Salt Life" that they learned about from a t-shirt, but don't want to respect the environment. Bring a bag with you and fill it with trash. It sucks cleaning up after other people, but if it's not done we will lose all of this.
End of rant. If you read this far, thanks. Hopefully it gets at least 1 or 2 people to care.
Great trip and thanks for showing us around on those little islands. I’ve done a 25 mile circumnavigation of Key Biscayne and Miami waterways many years ago, so I can appreciate and am impressed with your 31 miles. You probably wouldn’t want to do this on a hot and sunny summer day. (Also wouldn’t want to be on open water when a storm is brewing up.)
Didn’t know about the overseas highway construction plans through those waters - good thing that plan never materialized. Thanks for sharing that.
Badass dude . Takes some balls to go out there all alone .
ОтветитьHi, what type of kayak do you have? Where did you get it?
ОтветитьStop leaving your trash amigos.
ОтветитьWow that's a fun trip, good on you.
ОтветитьQuestion how long does it take from bill bags kayaking to Boca cita park. Trying to do it very soon. Thanks
ОтветитьThat was a respectful, adventurous trip. I live in Collier and have never explored Biscayne Bay. Aside from the trash, it's incredibly beautiful nevertheless. My stompin grounds are the Ten Thousand Islands. The water is not as clear, but the mangrove jungles are insane. I'm impressed by your botanical knowledge and knowing your plant and tree names. That is also something I strive for. Cheers!
Ответить31 miles is no joke! Especially with these winds we've been having. Recently did 8 miles from Flamingo to Shark Point Chickee and that was brutal.
ОтветитьC'mon and give this guy a thumbs up! After all his efforts making and sharing videos, he’s worth a 👍🏽 don't you agree?
ОтветитьNice. What does poison wood do? Kind of like poison ivy? (I’m not from FL, and never heard of it).
ОтветитьThe Tide brought in the trash. Any island in the Caribbean that isn't human occupied will have the same level of trash. If no one is there to pick it up, it will just remain there until someone does.
ОтветитьI love your work and wish to be in Florida instead of Georgia and be your friend, the state of Florida is rich in terms of finances I think their EPA division is not doing its job of keeping the water ways and it’s island specially Biscayne Bay Area clean which is a failure.
ОтветитьMan you are brave!! Ive seen boats flying out of Channel by stiltsville
