Another excellent well researched and impartial presentation Eddy. Thank you. This is why you have so many followers.

There's a sycamore in my back yard.
Can't grow grass because of it
Can't cut it because of flooding
Why can’t these people just not go for a walk and mind their own business like most others ?
ОтветитьThose selfish arseholes slapped that community and everybody who loved the tree across the face. Oil companies have bought our politicians and they have known since the 70's, the real criminals are the oil companies.
Ответить10 years is no where near long enough.
ОтветитьWhy has there not been any update about the trial
ОтветитьThe tree shold not have been cut down, but it could be blown over in a storm or just rotted which would have happened at some stage. I don't get that it had a value of £600.000 it is a renewble resource.
ОтветитьIt's just a tree lol. Mad world we live in
ОтветитьI hope they jail them for a long time
ОтветитьImagine they put that much effort into worse crimes
ОтветитьThe Sycamore Gap tree 🌳 was part of our English 🏴 Heritage ❤
Ответить10 years is too light .
ОтветитьI would just like to ask those two men.....WHY?
ОтветитьHave we found out there motivation for doing this damage?
ОтветитьSome say it's just a tree ... the same people that have fake grass and fake plastic plants and moan about any plant in a neighbours garden that may be taller than a primrose.
ОтветитьWhy would someone do this if it is just a tree?
The accused cut it down because it is more than just a tree, and they knew it.
It’s not just a tree. It’s a beautiful creation of God. A blessing. To look upon it brought a feeling of well being, of love, of belonging, many positive feelings. It’s loss is painful. Let God judge them! 😡
Ответитьanyone who thinks its just a tree, they have the same mentality as the idiots who cut it down.
ОтветитьIt's been cut down but there's been far too much sentimentality, at the end of the day it's a tree. So, whoever owned the tree/ land should just go and buy a fairly mature Sycamore, and put it where the cut down one was. they grow like weeds all over the country and they grow fast.
ОтветитьWhy couldn't it be joined up ..just asking
ОтветитьNo, it was not just a tree, it was a very valuable tree, and whoever damaged it should be punished like any other vandal, taking into account that value. I’ve been past it on the Military many times, and walked to it along the Wall. It was truly special. But I can’t get over the stupidity of investing it with some sort of semi-mystical quality. It’s a pity, move on!
We can’t be getting to the point where the law is applied in accordance with (shifting) public opinion. Cutting this tree down is a trivial crime compared to, say, assaulting someone.
Excellent reporting . BBC and ITV please copy !!!
ОтветитьIt wasn’t a spur of the moment decision to cut it down unless they carry chain saws around with them, so it was deliberate and calculated knowing it would cause outrage. Hope they get the fill 10 years.
ОтветитьThe culprits clearly know how important the tree is. That's why they have invested so much thought, planning and time into the wanton destructive event of covertly cutting it. If they were proud of the act, why not admit to doing it and explain why.
ОтветитьI hope they dont do anything to the stump and saplings. Let nature renew itself. Love, hope, peace to the community and the tree! May it regrow itself WITHOUT INTERFERANCE FROM WELL WISHERS
Ответить"could" and "may" won't stand up in court.
ОтветитьThe sheer ignorance, and stupidity of these two clowns is, staggering! For the wanton destruction of a much beloved landmark is reason enough for a lengthy custodial sentence.
The effect on local businesses, will also be of great significance, especially during these difficult times.
A shameful, and unnecessary act, such as this must not go unpunished!
Idiots!
It's purely about tourism and money.
ОтветитьMen in their 30's with nothing better to do than harm our landscape
ОтветитьHave any ex friends of the masked lad got any photos of him? I want to see the cowards face.
ОтветитьIt is the very fact that the act of cutting down the tree would elicit outrage from so many, that made it such an attractive target to the perpetrators. If this motive is proven in court, then there is no punishment severe enough.
ОтветитьIt's a shame but we should have the county council on trail for all the trees they felled in the name of health and safety these are the people who should be locked up !!!!!!!
ОтветитьWhy did they do it is my question?
ОтветитьExcellent video - balanced and well reasoned. Thank you
ОтветитьIs it possible to plant another similar tree in the same spot?
Ответитьprison isnt a one and done either. lot of employers still do criminal checks on applicants even when not supposed to, and reject people who been to jail.
ОтветитьDespicable act of vandalism .still shouldn't get more than a child predator come on guys .
ОтветитьVery good reporting, but please don't call them Lads, they are grown men who should know better.
ОтветитьBeautiful reports eddy ❤🇬🇧🇬🇧👍
ОтветитьDo we have any indication of motive at all? What was the point.
ОтветитьI'm surprised the tree was only valued at £1400, put up for sale as a living tree by the NT I think it would have been purchased for far more than that for its association with hadrians wall, but hardwood itself is not cheap, I've heard of hardwood trees not much bigger going for plus £30k a few years back. Anyhows, thanks for the update, I'm sure a lot f people are intersted in this and its odd mainstream channels are not putting time into this like you
ОтветитьAnyone who says "it is just a tree" is an idiot. It is a crime, not simply a tree, and should be punished. True other crimes should similarly be severely punished. There is not enough fear in the criminal community to provide a deterrent, but that is another issue of failure by the state.
ОтветитьTheir actions are akin to those ignorant idiots of "Just Stop Oil" when they deface works of art, as well as other despicable deeds. Therefore, they deserve the maximum prison sentences paid for from their own finances raised from the sale of assets and all property, and NOT paid for by taxpayers' money...!
ОтветитьA custodial sentence will not bring this tree back. A fine will not bring this tree back, it will just go into the communal pot. If/When someone is convicted of cutting down this tree they should be given the choice of jail or working for the forestry commission, planting trees and general forestry work. A little like community service and karma rolled into one. Lets face it, if this person is sent to jail it will cost the taxpayer about £65K per year, only a stupid, out of touch government would do that.............. Oh, sorry, just realised what I've typed. Doh.
Well done Eddy, great and informative video.
When it gets to the point that one man could lose his life then I’d say it’s just a tree. Perspective is so important.
This is not to detract from the importance of the tree. It should have been investigated and the culprit punished. 10 years is ridiculous. Make the punishment fit the crime and get him out planting new trees and make him run a new tree in its place
It wasn't just a tree a landmark 😢 so sad
ОтветитьSteve has a good point. Somebody seems to have chopped tree down to make a point or express themselves. Why would they choose the tree unless they appreciated how much effect this would have. Premeditated so "It's just a tree" cannot apply.
ОтветитьOne day it's "just a tree" and the next day it's "just a church" or "just a statue"
We are nothing without our culture and day by day it gets eroded.
Any idea why they did it?
ОтветитьCrime against human life goodness hope beauty truth culture I could go on ! POSTMODERN SHIT ALL OVER EVERYTHING !
