It's just that there is no reason to downgrade to win 11

For the win7 switch at least it made sense to get the new directX performance boost

But every time I have had to use win11 to do anything it's either just okay/similar to win10 at best or mega annoying at most.

So no upgrades, need to learn a new UI and downgrades. Why downgrade to win11??? Actually

My parents have PCs from ~2015. These PCs are more than good enough for anything they need to do, and will need to do, for the rest of their lives (both are about to retire). The PC market has changed - upgrades no longer bring obvious benefits to consumers.

Looks like the plan now is to put them on Linux. All they are doing is browsing the web and reading e-mail anyways so it's probably a good thing both for security and for being able to keep using their current machines. I recommend "normal people" to buy mac if they need a new machine as Microsofts security culture is broken and won't be fixed for many years even if they tried. Microsoft is unable to not fuck up.

Is Micro$oft going to keep it at $30 per year for those 3 years or are they going to ramp the price up as the years continue? If they keep it at $30 per year, I'm game. Windows 10 for basically another 4 years for $90?

To be frank, given windows 10 is almost 10 years old, it is unlikely any critical safety bugs haven't been found by now. You should be perfectly safe using it without spending £30 a year. And if a very critical bug did appear, it would be a PR disaster for microsoft not to patch it for free.

Honestly, unless you need windows only software just get Linux and abandon that mess that is Windows. If your PC can run windows 10 it will run Linux like a charm.

ESU from MS is 30$ for Consumers and it is going to be available only one year. Business customers will have to pay 61/122/244$ and can extend support for 3 years. If you join year 2 only, you'll have to pay year one on top. Thank you Mirosoft !!

Since we are all sharing Win11 stories: When I use Window 11s built-in unzipping tool on a large archive the explorer freezes and I have to forcibly restart it. So I HAVE to use 7zip or WinRar, but these are forever buried 3 layers down in the new and dumbed down context menu. This has been solved problem for decades, but Windows sure found a way...

How the hell do companies justify throwing 50$ per month per user out of the window for Office 365? This seems so ludicrous.

30 bucks??? It would be a shame if someone recomended people to upgrade to windows 10 ltsc that has support and updates till 2032... trully a shame...

The best move for individuals is to learn to use Linux and ditch Windows for good.
