It doesn’t matter since there won’t be third party RF lenses 😂
ОтветитьI didnt watch the entire video yet, but it really surprises me how positive most of the reviews are when it comes to the ergonomics of the R6.
Personally I do not understand Canon´s choices at all.
They made a fresh design with the R - got a reasonable backlash because of the lackluster controls and then made a near perfect design for the R6/R5. Then they bring out an R7 which totally throws it off again and now the R6 Mk 2 is also different to the R5... They should´ve either went for a shutter button "On / Off" Ring like Sony, Nikon, Panasonic and Fuji are doing it, or kept it at the old position. The new lever on the top-right side should´ve been the video / photo switch - then at least the rest of the design would´ve stayed alongside of the R5. I generally find that this new On / Off switch looks like it´s in an extremely uncomfortable spot to use regularly.
Is Canon really so out of touch that they think their professional users do not need a similar control layout across the range of cameras? It´s damn weird what their current plan is to be honest...
Another greet video! 👍🏻 to me I think the R6 II is a decent upgrade to the R6 not a minor one, since it has a new sensor and pipeline (processor).
ОтветитьHow does it compare overall to the R3?
ОтветитьJust got mine 2 days ago and I'm BLOWOWOWON away! The IQ is soooo much better than anything I've ever used (shot Canon for 18 years as a pro). I can shoot in nearly pitch black at F1.4 ISO 12800 and the noise is barely noticeable (fine grain) and not only that, the AF hits perfectly even with my adapted Sigma Art 50... even handheld at 1/4s !
I can even get full 12/40 FPS with the Sigma Art lenses (and the AF of the 50mm Art is actually faster than the native RF 50mm 1.2 believe it or not).
There are so many great things about this camera, like the new 1/16000 shutter speed in electronic mode. Not even the R5 can do that.
The best IQ I ever had prior was the 5DIV where I would shoot low light at ISO10,000 without a second thought... even do lots of shadow manipulation. I never thought I would need better but the R6 II does surpass it by a significant level. The 24 MP files upscaled to 30 MP in Adobe Camera Raw look sharper from the R6 II than natively on the 5D IV... and also the AF rarely misses where the 5D IV missed a LOT which obviously hampers sharpness.
Oh and Alex, it was your video where you compared the R6 vs A7IV that showed me that advertised MP can be misleading. The R6 files upscaled to 33 MP often looked sharper than the A7IV files (esp when using the 35 and 85 lenses). I've even compare the R6 upscaled to 45 MP in Adobe Camera Raw to the identical files from the R5 and most of the time, even zoomed to 100% my graphic designer buddy and I couldn't tell the difference.
Haven't used it and I might not get to so I don't want to be too harsh, but I think the best thing about the R6ii will be the adjusted prices on the R6 for those who either a) are still waiting to jump to mirrorless or b) are coming from the RP/R. Everything looks like a welcome change, but like you said, it's tough to lose a few hundred bucks to bump up. For me, that record limit is the biggest draw...
ОтветитьYeah, I tried AI focus and basically all it does is switch between one shot and servo mode based on if the subject is moving but obviously it still needs a few refinement because yeah, it could be slow to switch which means that it can lose focus so I just keep it on servo and it works really amazingly well in fact, definitely better than the R5
ОтветитьA small correction, since it's a different processor then the R6, the battery life is improved, and for me, that's a big thing.
ОтветитьGreat video , It is not BSI sensor like R3 ,
😢
Just finished watching your video and the info about the focus issues was a bit worrisome. Then I realized you were using the AI Focus mode which behaves like this - kind of unreliable.
AI Focus has been around for a LOOONG time. I think even my old 20D had this, and my 5D IV for sure (I know the 5D II had it too).It was always kind of unreliable because as it would switch from Servo to One Shot and back you would miss some shots. SO I always would choose Servo or One Shot myself.
I don't think my R had this but seems like they brought it back on the R7 and R6 II. It's mainly a "set and forget" type of focus, probably aimed at new photographers. It's sort of the best of both worlds ideally but you will miss shots when it decides to switch from SERVO to ONE SHOT.
Great video!
Just picked mine up today. Can’t wait to try it out tomorrow. Going to leave the R5 home so i can start my muscle memory since the dial layup is slightly different
ОтветитьTbh I'm a little surprised you did a review on the R6ii, I used to watch your channel before the switch, hence the reason I was surprised. You helped make some decisions with your previous reviews on my Canon journey and felt you understood where I was coming from. I did make the upgrade and now have this one and the R6 since I'm a hybrid shooter. Thanks for the video
ОтветитьDid you test autofocus with a Canon lens? In your video it is something else!! Don't judge autofocus on 3rd party or Ef lenses , genius!
ОтветитьUpgraded from the R and based on ergonomics alone it was a huge difference. Photos come out beautifully and autofocus is MINDBLOWING. Canon killed it. Wish it had a few more MPs but it still is amazing.
ОтветитьI'm upgrading from the 5D MK1, is it worth it? xD
ОтветитьThe new hot shoe design is worth the upgrade if you're a wedding photographer because the hot shoe design on the original R6 is horrible. The hot shoe gets lose after a few months.
ОтветитьIt is not BSI sensor like R3
Ответитьawesome video! Can't wait to see more on the r6mkii! What lens did you attach midway through?
ОтветитьAs an R6 owner, the Stills / Video switch is honestly such a small but important upgrade. I do a little bit of concert photography/videography and trying to find the correct part of the dial for video and then back to Manual is so irritating 😂
Ответитьwhat about heating issues?
ОтветитьBattery life is actually longer on the R6 II
ОтветитьI was waiting for this, this dude goes straight to the good stuff!! Greetings my friend 👍🏼
ОтветитьYou are one of the top camera reviewers. Calm demeanor and thoughtful insight. I really appreciate your videos.
ОтветитьNice job!! Love my R5 and my M11 no more gear for me I hope lmao!!😂😂
Ответитьi got my camera today and had a hard time with the ai focus! i’m a new camera buyer and this was recommended but i think i’d be okay without that new focus feature
ОтветитьI have to disagree and say that my experience upgrading from R6 to R6ii is a night and day difference and would do it over all day long. I didn’t think the 4 megapixels would be much of a difference but it was JUST enough!! Much cleaner sharper photos than my R6 and am so much happier with the results, worth taking a loss but softened the blow getting rid of the kit lens with it. Cheers good review over all
ОтветитьThanks for reviewing the photography performance when so many others are just talking about video
ОтветитьI got it but i must learn in the detail of camera
ОтветитьI've seen some videos that have shown that the R6 mark II has less dynamic range than the R7. That's disappointing.
ОтветитьUse Canon DPP to get noise performance out of CR3
ОтветитьI picked one up and love it.
ОтветитьIt’s not back side illuminated sensor
ОтветитьBattery life is NOT the same! The R6 II has a much better battery life!
Other reviewers have confirmed that and the canon spec sheet also mentions that.
I have a canon T7i and I want to upgrade to the R6 mrk ii. Is it worth it? I’m a sports photographer btw but in the future I want to shoot other things outside of sports. Great video btw
ОтветитьLooks like another ugly 5D Canon why does Canon have no design?
ОтветитьI used my R6ii with the rf 70-200 to shoot basketball the other day. Shot 4 games so far and was disappointed by the autofocus. I honestly felt like my original R6 was better. I didn't think to upgrade my lens firmware until you mentioned it in this video. I'm really hoping that makes a difference, I should find out soon.
ОтветитьThank you for the review, I also struggled with the auto focus, I shot a sweet 16 and a wedding this passed weekend and I noticed I missed many shots, my r5 and my old r6 ( that I sold 🥲) never had that issue … hopefully some new software updates will help.
ОтветитьIs buying a R6 at the current discount a better option then waiting for more Mark IIs to be released?
ОтветитьSo you're saying Canon is FINALLY competitive in this price range?
ОтветитьWhat are you shooting this video on?
Ответитьim surprised you and some ppl in the comments were disapointed on the new auto focus
so far all the ppl i know who owns this says the new AF tech is amazing
like magic almost
Thank you for the raw photos, I was looking at the color profile whether its can easily match with my R5 and boy it will be worth upgrade from 5D Mark 4.
ОтветитьGood biceps !!
ОтветитьTHANK YOU for providing the Raw files! I am still clinging to my Nikon D810 (one of the best DR cameras ever made) for stills and using cheaper Canons for video. I have been waiting...and waiting...and waiting for Nikon to come out with a reliable mid-range hybrid. I've tried both the Z6ii and Z7ii - neither passed my tests for getting at least close to the DR of the D810 and solid video autofocus. With these RAW files, I now see that Canon (SURPRISE!!!), who has always had amazing video, now has respectable DR!! Not quite D810, but close enough to have me seriously considering an 'all in'. I've looked at a ton of Sony files while considering a 'hybrid move' and while I know their DR is really good and their video af is solid, there is still something about their colors and photo rendering - even in the newer cams - that is just 'off' for me. All that gibberish to say - THANKS!!
