it may be an inconsequential step, but at least a step into the right direction. In contrast to Brexit, which was a huge step into the wrong direction, I think there is some reason for appreciation.
Also, good governance is boring, small steps every day that add up at the end. Good governance is rarely spectacular. It requires a systematic rebuilding from the damage caused in the previous decade. Whether Starmer is the right person for this, I don't know. But he may have deserved his chance. For an outsider like me, he does not seem any worse than his last 3-4 predecessors in the post.
Well teh food advantage will be gone when we accept the US's poor quality produce
ОтветитьCutting off free movement with the EU was stupid and I wish a politician would argue for a new free movement treaty.
ОтветитьI find this intriguing Richard. I fully respect your opinion so I'm compelled to ask, who would you vote for right now?
ОтветитьRichard, Would appreciate your view on one part of the deal,ie the fishing policy. The fishermen are unhappy, but is it that bad. Thanks.
ОтветитьThis seems political stupidity to me. Starmer now has the worst of both worlds. He is already being bashed for betraying Brexit, yet there will be no big upturn in the economy. He could have explained that every trade deal means abiding by some new rules and gone for single market and customs union and taken the political hit now but then won in a year or two when people felt more prosperous, plugging month by month the real improvements. Although I thought Brexit a mistake I am not a fan of the EU power structure as currently organized with the unelected Commission driving policy but I suspect that will change – I hope peacefully.
ОтветитьBrexit was on Farage’s and Johnson’s lies never forget that. Farage is like Tefal nothing ever sticks to that Grifter. Any step to ease the Brexit disaster is welcome.
ОтветитьIt’s a welcome step in the right direction Rome wasn’t built in a day.
ОтветитьMurphy sounds like an anti starmer socialist. An ideollogically pocessed tax chasing corbynister to be exact.
ОтветитьStarmer and Liebour will be out next time we go to the polls, so let him bury himself deeper and deeper as each headline and week passes. This one term government will get replaced, likely by Reform but could be anyone at this moment in time, people down in the bubble have absolutely no idea what's going on in the rest of the country, it was the same when Brexit happened, drive north of Watford Gap and it was so obvious just from the signs out everywhere that Brexit was going to happen, its starting to feel the same again already and the clown with the proverbial 'crown' is politically clueless when it comes to understanding real working people.
ОтветитьStarmer is a wet incompetent fart - he is going to worsen standards of living for 90% of the population and usher in a reform government in 3 years time - it is just depressing
ОтветитьThe purpose was to align with the EU and be a rule taker.
ОтветитьIf UK moves back to Eu it will give the flick to that joker called Farage, honestly the Brits do not need a far right fool in charge!
ОтветитьIn a market where even giants like Tesla show volatility, it's wise to keep an eye on all opportunities. While we dissect big tech movements, remember, diversification is key. Crypto trading, with its unique landscape, offers a different rhythm compared to traditional stocks. It's not just about riding the big waves; sometimes, the subtle currents in crypto can lead to interesting outcomes. In times like these, where unpredictability reigns, keeping an open mind to all markets, including crypto, is a smart strategy...managed to grow a nest egg of around 110k to a decent 932k in the space of a nine weeks... I'm especially grateful to Katrina Caulfield whose deep expertise and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this challenging, ever-evolving financial landscape.
ОтветитьWhat would you have done?
I’m all for holding our govs accountable but spreading pessimism doesn’t contribute to economic growth. This may not be a significant step in reality but objectively speaking we are one step closer to finding out what works and what doesn’t. This deal is a two way street and it’s easy to say we should just rejoin at least the customs union. Working at a corporate I understand how many companies are still adapting to Brexit changes and having to suddenly separate the flour from the dough is just unrealistic. If there are steps we can take to help make do, regardless of the ulterior motive, I think it’s worth taking them.
Starmer Lies and lies!
ОтветитьRichard, the UK voted out of the EU. But you think the prime minister should have us rejoin? Is that not rather dictatorial?
ОтветитьIf you quote from the Guardian. Oh dear
ОтветитьLiterally had 10 months to crawl something back from Russia-funded self destruction pushed by assets johnson, gove, farrage tice n co
ОтветитьBrexit was a mistake
ОтветитьFor me it's a good start.
ОтветитьStarmer has disappointed millions who voted for Labour.
So far, he has no achievements which can be proudly claimed as Labour. He is so far right wing that I'm not sure why he doesn't just follow his political leanings and swap Parties.
It is interesting how increasingly right wing England still oppresses the centre to left wing countries of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (and, yes, I know NI isn't a country).
England is a foreign country, growing more foreign with every passing election. Meanwhile, Europe has centre and centre left wins with every passing election.
Poor from you again
ОтветитьI am all for Britain trading with the EU the only problem we end up taking their rules & their people. Thank the Lord we don't take the people & rules from every country we trade with. According to the government we will gain an extra £9 billion on GDP by 2040. What we have given up & what we will pay the EU in that time its seems a very small if any gain for Britain.
ОтветитьWell said
ОтветитьEvery step towards the EU should be accompanied with a request for the border poll to resolve the issue properly.
ОтветитьMillions of people who voted for Brexit on 23 June 2016 have died from June 2016 to May 2025.
Mortality data was projected due to mortality rates in the UK in the 2010s and this excludes some post 2019 data as it was before the pandemic.
Millions of young people who were under the voting age of 18 years on 23 June 2016 are now of voting age.
EU Referendum demographics had those aged 50 - 60 equally voting for Remain and Leave.
EU Referendum had the majority aged over 60 mostly voting Leave.
EU referendum had the majority of those aged 18 to 50 voting Remain.
A new vote to rejoin the EU would now have a majority for the UK voting to rejoin the EU.
The EU negotiate unfairly and that's why Trump punished them and rightly so
ОтветитьIt’s amazing how many rights and opportunities have been lost, and now the most people are hoping for is breadcrumbs, and somehow this whole Brexit charade is still being portrayed as something good for the working and middle class by the establishment. Now let’s talk about the establishment, which by the definition are the people with power, who can always come and go freely, and are still demanding that because they got money they shouldn’t be taxed, and the loopholes for tax evasion must remain in place forever. They have freedom on capital flows to do whatever but the working class can’t have actual freedom of movement. It’s almost as if they want to recreate some cheaper and cheaper labor conditions for the UK going forward, and leaving its citizens without any exit strategy, not even to bargain with the local exploiters. This is why I hate the market, it’s always begging for the return of its beginnings, forcing laborers at home.
ОтветитьIn monetary terms it will not undo the damage caused by Brexit, but in general terms it is a huge step forward in reversing Brexit. We are now talking to the EU in positive terms about things that are mutually beneficial. Opening this dialogue and reaching these agreements is a major leap forward in repairing our relationship with the EU going forward, and I look forward to much more of the same as time goes by. I respect and admire your views and knowledge, and enjoy your videos but I think you are wrong to only look at the deal in monetary terms.
ОтветитьThe only long term solution is to rejoin the EU, fiddling around the edges is, as Richard implies, inconsequential.
ОтветитьIf the majority of people in the UK are in favour of rejoining the EU, then why can't Starmer ignore Farage?
I think he's not truly convinced that people are ready to rejoin and he may still hope to gain out of the economic freedom Brexit affords. It's desillusional but it probably feel real to someone like Starmer who is desperate to cling to Power
Richard, you never mentioned the economic impact of selling out our fisherman?
ОтветитьEat the rich.
ОтветитьInteresting thanks but Northern Ireland isn't a nation or country.
ОтветитьYou're "forgetting" that were, nominally, two sides to this negotiation. The UK and the EU. Both had things they wanted to happen and NOT happen. It was in fact the EU who pushed hardest for the re introduction of the Erasmus scheme and Labour used that fact to gain something it wanted in return. Two way street.
ОтветитьPoliticians who is actually doing his/her job right never say out loud on the media about what they are doing
ОтветитьJesus thumbs down, rejoiners live in the same fantasy world as brexiteers we are not just going to waltz back into the EU, this is a very small step on a long road. Murphy hates Starmer and it makes his objectivity highly dubious at best.
ОтветитьIF YOU LIVE IN :
WALES /CYMRU : SUPPORT AND VOTE PLAID CYMRU.
SCOTLAND : SUPPORT AND VOTE SNP
ENGLAND : SUPPORT AND VOTE LIBERAL DEMOCRAT.
Lets rejoin EU Now !
I had the pleasure of knowing so many Erasmus scheme students when at university. I am happy to see any small step back
ОтветитьThe EU is slowly becoming insignificant as a world prominent trading block. When the UK joined, in the 1970's, the EU accounted for 23% of the worlds GDP. Today, this has shrunk to 11.5% of world GDP. Just how much of this decline is due to the protectionist trading policies that the EU exercises"?"
ОтветитьThis is just the first step, just take the win and have a day off.
They have already announced there will be a summit every year. So every year we are going to see incremental improvements this is not the end state.
If this is just a small step back and the right wing press are losing their shit over it to this extent imagine what would happen if they tried to take a bigger first step.
Please would you do a video on the concept of taxpayer money? I think it crucial to people's understanding of money and would certainly help my own economic knowledge. Thanks!
ОтветитьStarmer is just another in the line of Labour traitors. We must jail him an Blair and then reverse everything they have done, especially the EU, Devolution, Chagos and WHO.
ОтветитьI did despair at the double decker that Farange had painted up with falsehoods and driven about for attention. All the European countries, including the UK and Scotland and Wales and Ireland are all products of WW2 and disunity amongst them is very dangerous. As to Keir Starmer it was surprising to see him showing “ some bottle “ and telling the Israeli monsters that starving children is as low as it gets. Thanks for sharing your considerable intellect.
ОтветитьWas my comment removed? I can’t find it anywhere.
ОтветитьRichdrd I had asked you to comment on property
Is it a con and a scam ?
I think it is
I think that if you buy or invest in property you end up in ruin
Okay, boomer. 👌🏻
