What is wrong for Europe to be independent instead of being US lapdog? Macron may be all talk and no action but why turn on him just because he wished to have an independent Europe?

Don’t be confused. America stands bipartisan in support of Taiwan. It’s not just the republicans. And If Europe wants to go at it alone, me and my fellow Americans would support us leaving Ukraine for Europe to worry about.

Macron is the first EU leader to publicly declared that in the event of a nuclear exchange between Russia and Nato, France will have no part in this, which shows that France will not sacrifice the life n well-being of their own people to defend US imperialism n hegemony which has caused so much destruction n suffering around the world. The latest example of this is the US proxy war in Ukraine which has benifited the US immensely at the expense of their European vassal states.

Obivously there is a need to de risk.
If one rebut de risk you are doing what?
If you answer this you understand otherwise you are still dependent on other to rule you.

Absolute facts about Europe

• Zero energy independence
• Negative birthrates with open borders
• Unsustainable Social Programs (Ponzi)
• Collective defense has been paid for by NATO/USA tax payers
• Uncompetitive industry
• Self destructive environmental policies that no one else seems to follow or enact
• Fractures in EU membership that will only worsen

The future of Europe is grim. The past few decades have been subsidized by credit and the money printer. A strong currency and an emptying savings account to buy Chinese goods to maintain a standard of living. This is not sustainable and will not last.

A great pragmatic speech and he is 100% correct. Though the hysteria over climate will ultimately be Europes undoing (and possibly open border policy). I cannot see how industry and net zero can remotely be mutually achieved in such a wild west competitive world.

Hey Mr. Macron, so you want to be more competitive but you have overlooked this one thing " as your workforce ages they don't become more competitive, they "WILL" become less competitive and they will do the least amount of work as possible. Companies can not offload them because it would cost them too much to make them redundant.... THIS IS FACT. Another fact, if a team of engineers who are looking at the same problems for over 30 years and can't figure it out... "WILL" they figure it out in the next 30 years 🤔..... No they will not, you need new mindset and culture change. T-55 what is it.

Mon Dieu! I can't believe Macron had the courage to say that - that's probably the first time a French president says that! <-- contains sarcasm. BTW, I'm sure Germany's decision to increase its defense spending was made for, in the long run, get the EU to take care of their own defense - after all, in the long run, the EU could end up starting at Algarve in Porgutal and ending in Vladvostok ... and some people don't want that to happen.

as an american, I do think we'd all like to see a Europe that is capable of doing the things Macron says Europe should do (in sentiment, any ways)

however... europe cannot currently stop a war on its own continent - so thank goodness the US is there to assist , as well with assistance for humanitarian and state aid to keep Ukraine from collapsing. Is Europe truly ready to grasp the kind of autonomy Macron seems to suggest they should?

It seems to me that Europe is not. Thank goodness you all have the US, the global order that allows europe to tap into the world's market with its economies , without needing several competing empires and their navies to secure their own trade networks. That has tended to become quite violent. Much of Europe's history has been quite bloody as various empires form, grow, and wage war against one another.

So... I just don't see Europe as having invested in and being capable of the kind of autonomy Macron describes. Its a nice sentiment and bluster I suppose, but I don't see Europe or the EU as capable of filling the shoes Macron says it should wear : if it were I think we would have seen much different spending priorities in recent decades.

By all means when Western Europe faces crisis from an aggressive expansionistic power sewing seeds of discord and reporting to the enemy camp western disunity helps! But of course Frances’ Macron speaking from the safety deep behind Europes frontiers questions America’s leadership! But, French leadership, NOW that’s a good idea, right? If Europe, led by Macron concedes to China, concedes to Russia, peace in our time can be guaranteed! Yes, appeasement seems like the way ahead for Europe led by Macron!

Not an unreasonable set of 'pillars', even though it's a re-frame of many points and values that not so long ago weren't a priority for Macron, and several countries of the EU, even though it was the best interests for all EU countries.
I could listen to him speak for hours, just for the accent, but I am very aware that something is off in his motivation, and sudden change of direction......
If your 'epiphanies' cause you to vastly alter your views in a short period of time, ....in extreme (wartime) circumstances, when it's impossible to avoid being under scrutiny for your true commitment to 'unity' in Europe,...... at least address the previously held and pushed 'values' which ran (in some key areas) contrary to the current magnificence of vision for the EU you (Macron) seems to have adopted, otherwise, it looks as though you're trying to create a new reality without confirming the departure from the previous one.
Again, something is off here, and the 'protestors' at the beginning feel like a scripted part of 'the spectacle' that is Macron in the spotlight sprouting forth ..... nothing nouveau.
Be careful to keep this one in check EU, and keep the meaning of U in the EU, and with other allied countries, or I feel Macron may sell you all to the highest bidders, or worse......
