I think there was an error in the calculation of Fioravanti's last wave score. If you calculate the average of the scores given by each of the five judges, it gives 9.12, not 9.10, and therefore Leo wins. I don't know if there is any factor I'm not considering. If it's my mistake, please explain what happened.

À Judge who gives a 10 to Barron and an 8.8 to Leo. How can there be 1.2pts difference. I hope that was the last call of that judge ever. WSL, u guys have to get real if you want your sport and your business to strive.

Leo’s first wave was too high

Not to mention Strider’s interview to Leo before the final asking him how he felt after the injury he had at Pipe (7+ yrs ago). What the f*? He almost got paralyzed! is it a fair question to ask (especially before a final)? Sadly embarrassing. On the opposite Leo fairly and politely answered the question and he almost won the comp. Well done Leo!

Tbh I think the judges got it right, Leo was way over juiced for his first scoring ride

I along with the rest of the surf-community know that Leo got his Pipeline Trophy taken by a bunch of undeserving judges and I hope whoever is in charge of picking judges for next-yrs. Pipe-Event choose-wisely so we don’t witness another amazing competitor get the trophy 🏆 taken from him because he’s not Hawaiian and wooden such a amazing story for the Hawaiian boys winning all three major events. This was pure BS in my book and I normally don’t comment on anything but I’ve only witnessed a few robberies in my life and this takes the cake

In my book and I dare say many-more we know who was the real champion this year, go Leo and let this motivate you to win the championship this year. Go Italia.

In my opinion judges got it right. Both of Barron's waves had more intensity. Leo's waves were both slow stalls at the start.

It’s sad…I was underground with KP, China, we were looked down upon as bums…the best years, Kirra late 70’s to late 80’s, then surfing became trendy…2 of us out on a perfect break, instead of 100 fukkers dunno what’s what…Idiots like fukkin ocky? Dropping in on kids..we would all be world champs…but it is a new sad generation doing stupid 360 whatever’s ..just hit the lip, but no..common sense and real soul surfing is dead..enjoy your privileges ,..we earnt our waves…try that

It's obvious that Leonardo Fioravanti is the winner. Why does the WSL allow these gross mistakes?

I think its Barrons first wave - not an 8. I think in general these scores were inflated. I didnt see a Pipeline 8 point ride in the whole heat.
Leo should have won - but 8 point and 9 point rides? Not in that final. The judges got the que to fatten the scores to intesify the final - and thats what we get.

Home job. And I love Barron, but Leo's wave was better than the final score.

Leo massively overscored on his first 8.8. Not even close to Barron's. His second wave was nice but not nearly as critical of a drop.

Had to watch this whole heat and it's clear Leo's first wave was not even close to an 8.8.


Barron's waves were definitely more risky on the drops. Ross Williams on point.

Knowing that it doesn't really matter how good you do because not being the favorite can completely mess up your career sucks. Who knows if Leo would be 500 points away of being top 5 at the end of the season because of this...
