Cmon, you can't expect people to read/listen/pay attention carefully and not jump to conclusions. Especially where there's content to be made.

But sony has cut all marketing for the game, when was the last time you saw an ad for it? When they where running pretty regularly during the alpha and marathons x etc have gone radio silent. Also, also if it was false sony or bungie would have issued a correction to any video, instead what thier marketing dept is actually doing is trying to figure out the best spin case spin they can put on this. But ok skarrow they haven't canceled marketing at all lol, let me know when you see a marathon ad for a large studio game coming in a few months. The reporting is inaccurate the message is correct how ever they got there.

The damage is already done here - and it is not because of the "false" or "misconstrued" reporting about Sony's financing of the game - it is Bungie themselves. Marathon as a game was already a tough sell to most people simply due to its intended genre: PvP Extraction Shooter. While this will appeal to some Bungie fans just by virtue of being a Bungie game, that is far from everyone. With NDA's lifted, we also know what playtesters felt about the game and the impressions were very much lukewarm. Throughout the past 10 years of Destiny and Destiny 2, Bungie have built themselves up as primarily a PvE- and Story-focused developer. The fact that every season and expansion to the game has a grand overarching narrative tells you this. This is the part more or less guaranteeing Marathon's failure - there simply isn't an audience within their own community and chances are high (given past and current sentiment about the game) that it won't be able to draw a crowd from other games in the genre, namely Tarkov and some of the Battle Royale games.

Add to that the fact of the stolen art controversy, which at this point seems to indicate that the WHOLE aesthetic of Marathon was lifted from this one artists portfolio, well, now you have a recipe for disaster. The incoherent mumbling from Bungie and the faces of utter shame they had during that Marathon live-stream a few weeks back didn't remedy anything. In fact, it likely made things worse.

Marathon is not for me. It will never be for me. The developers making Marathon are not the people that made Halo and Destiny. These are people trying to "riff" on the past successes of the company but without the talent and vision, as is made utterly clear by the blatantly stolen art and aesthetic. The "It was just one dev"-explanation doesn't cut it when the whole feel and palette of the game seems to be based on this persons art.

My two cents as a fan of Bungie for 25 years with thousands and thousands of hours spent in their games.

It really is frustrating when journalistic websites like Forbes don't sufficiently delineate speculation and opinion from factual reporting. A few years ago, that happened with Paul Tassi's articles about the "poison subclass" supposedly coming in Lightfall. "‘Destiny 2’ Is Making It Clear A Toxic Subclass Is Coming, Someday" followed up by "Destiny 2's New Poison Subclass May Be Rooted In Egregore." Headlines like these failed to clarify the extent of the speculation, suggesting that the poison subclass was known. You might not realize you're wasting your time until you've read pretty deeply or received a visit from your time-traveling future self.

Marathon’s outlook is negative & any other stance is lies and cope. It so obviously needed pve & other things, I can’t believe it was missed. Glad the accused doubled down and will continue to call it like it is.

Cross having any presence in the community and Tassi being able to present himself as a "journalist" when he really just writes free blog posts for Forbes so they can get ad revenue is so emblematic of a wider problem in the Destiny / Marathon space to critically analyze the information being provided and who's providing it.
