Don’t You DARE Compare Astro Bot to Mario! Or...Maybe Do?

All i will say is that all mario games that they are one of the greatest or a great game my thing is that nintendo has been making mario games for years.

Astro Bot wears its influences on its sleeve, but they’re quality influences (e.g. Mario Sunshine/Galaxy) and in the end, it’s doing its own thing. Truly one of the best 3D platformers ever, a breath of fresh air, and a perennial candidate for GOTY IMO.

The only thing I think that Nintendo can learn from Astro Bot is from a technical standpoint. I sometimes can't help but imagine a Mario game using PS5 level tech.

I dont think mario needs to take inspiration, but it would be nothing but a good thing if it did. I loved the immersion of all the haptic feedback and other features of the dualsense in astro bot specifically. Would be cool if next mario could add something like that .

The next 3D Mario has a lot of heat, that is why Nintendo fans are mad because it has to match or rival Astro Bot in level of quality.

Agreed with every single point, Rob! I've enjoyed Astro Bot more than the latest line of 3D Marios (which says a lot because I adored Odyssey), but I don't see this as a competition at all. It just means I get to enjoy another great 3D platformer! I think I'll play more tonight, actually.

Just platinumed Astro bot earlier today. Yes, it plays much like a 3D Mario. But who cares if it's copying the 3D Mario games? This is a rock solid game in its own right! And this is a GOTY contender without a doubt.

I don't care about comparatives, as long as the game is fun and makes me feel happy and have a wonderful time playing it, i already got the platinum trophy and still thirsty for more!!

This games comes every so often that we should celebrate each one of them.

The VAST majority of Pro-Mario fans have never even played Astro Bot. Most have not even heard of the game

I never played Mario galaxy. But I grew up with Mario NES. Mario 2, 3 and world .Mario 64 blew my mind and I have wholesome memories of Mario Wii 2 since I played it countless times with my kids and wife❤. I played Mario odyssey and I though I was done with this type of games since I didn’t enjoy odyssey.
I’m playing Astro bot right now and I can say this is the best colechtethon o have ever play.

I think only children have console wars and even more childish kids fight over game mascots

Astro Bot is GOTY!

Finished Astro Bot a few days ago and its really good i do think Super Mario Galaxy 1,2 aswell as Odyssey is better in terms of movement and creativity of power ups and level design.

mario games are so much overated crap could use some more horror games out it like five nights at wario as free roaming

Sony finally got a success on their hands and then they shot themselves in the foot worth $700 with that thing. Anyway getting compared to Galaxy is high praise. What is there to be upset about? Oh right the internet just loves to be upset. If only I gave a rat's ass about the PS5 then I could play Super Mario Galaxy 3 myself.

My first impressions are it looks like and it looks like it plays like a mashup of Sunshine and Galaxy.

I have yet to get an PS5. But if I had, this game would be at the top of my list to get because it looks so good and as an Mario & Kirby veteran, this game is exactly what I wanted. It took every inspiration from those games; mainly the linear ones like Galaxy, 3D World & Forgotten Land, while also paying homage to almost every single game exclusive to Sony and than some.

I've played them all and Astrobot was the most enjoyable platformer I've ever played.

Im not trying to compare astro bot to mario. As a huge mario fan and nintendo fan, astro bot was an awesome game for me. Id rated 9.5/10. Im gonna beat the game as soon i am ready.

Astro is a 8/9 and there's never been a bad Mario game. The benefit for Nintendo is all others are measured by them.

I agree with you! The competition is also great since it leads to more creativity and innovation. I am saying this as a longtime fan of Nintendo and PlayStation since the N64/PS1 era up to now. 😎👍🏼

I find it cringe how so many adults make gaming their sole personality to the point where they get defensive when you make comparisons. Yes, we owe Mario/Nintendo a lot but just because you’re the originator of something doesn’t automatically make you the best. And just cuz you’re inspired by something else doesn’t automatically make you lesser than that originator. Would I personally put AB over Mario as a someone who loves Sony and Nintendo but prefers PS? No I personally wouldn’t but there are sony and even Nintendo fans out there’s that I’ve seen who would, and either opinion is okay because they’re just OPINIONS. Even if you think AB is overhyped, that’s valid but don’t let it be your personality.

Astro Bot really is on a whole new level in terms of game design and gameplay. Mario does not compare. Like, Mario walked so Astro Bot could run.

Astronomy being influenced by Mario makes sense if you recall the head at Sony commenting that they need to have an IP like Mario when the Mario movie came out

Nothing against Astrobot, but i think one of the reasons why Nintendo fans can be critical about this is because, during the 2000s, playstation and xbox gamers bullied and mocked them online for liking this kind of colorful, arcade like platform/adventure games. They saw it as backwards, inmature, and lame, similar to how the company itself was viewed at the time... And now they are enjoying a title inspired by the works they used to hate on.

Odyssey is better.

I've been a gamer since the Atari days. In all those years, I've been an owner of many systems... Most of them are Nintendo. So I'm a life long Nintendo fan. I too remember Super Mario Bros. being released, and it rocked my world. I've owned the NES, SNES, GAMECUBE, N64, Wii, Wii U, and Switch on DAY 1 - all except for the NES. And I've owned a Dreamcast, PS3, PS4, and PS5. I mostly just play my switch. But now I have a wonderful reason to play my PS5 - and that reason is Astro Bot. I agree, it is an outstanding platformer - and I put it up there with the top platform games ever released. Astro Bot is equal with Mario IMO. And I am very thankful that! I'm glad Nintendo FINALLY has some platforming competition!

I will choose astro bot over super mario odyssey any day of the week. Astro bot has dethroned mario and is the new platform king. Mario has a lot of good games in it's franchise, and mario has been around for a very long time. But mario is now old and outdated, mario had it's time to shine. Now it's time for mario to step down and step aside and let the new platform king astro bot shine. Out with the old in with the new.

Honestly, Astro Bot feels like a kids game even compared to Mario. There's a jump and hover...that's it. A few temporary upgrades here and there that were underwhelming to use.
