The "Egyptian Gardens"had absolutely nothing to do with Egyptians. It was owned by Greeks and was a place where people went to listen to this type of music end enjoy the beautiful Belly dancers. The above mentioned song captures the feeling and tone to a tee. It would be great if we could leave political correctness out and just enjoy this great music Peace to all.
Ответитьgreat album, got it on vinyl
Ответитьomg! 0:43 does he says "Opa!"?? Greetings from Greece! :)
ОтветитьΩΠΑ!
Ответитьsaw them at the Whiskey A Go Go in the late 60's loved them - still do
Ответитьイイネ!
ОтветитьSaw them at the Filmore in 1968, they were downtown in the Haight the next day; they probably played the Straight Theater that night....I'm guessing.
ОтветитьThe drummer had a child born the night of the concert at the Filmore.
ОтветитьThey were at the Filmore in 1968 if memory serves; the drummer had a child born the night of the concert. The band was down in the Haight the next day, maybe they played the Straight the following evening?
ОтветитьWish I could work out what they're singing at the end of each verse . . .
Ответитьwhat means OPA in greek? In brazil its a kind of : " opa! take it easy" or "opa! hello, buddy"
ОтветитьIt's a folk word with various meanings, depending how you use it: a. As an exclamation of enthusiasm, while we dance and have fun. e.g. : Someone is dancing Zeibekiko and the rest of the people clap their hands and say "Ooopaaaa!!!" b. As a command for someone to "stop", for example in a conversation, or very often while someone helps another guy to park his car. e.g. someone parks the car, and the other tells "Come, come as you are, come... Opa!!! You'll hit the wall!"
Ответитьc. as a exclamation of surprise (good or bad), and sometimes as a humorous way to deride your friends I hope I helped a little bit... Cheers!!
Ответитьcool, yeah. i got it!
Ответитьlove this song, album for years ; psych eastern folk , ; love it
ОтветитьΟΠΑ μαγκες!
Ответитьvery lush arrangements like the grooviness!
ОтветитьIs that a sitar he's playing in the intro? Groovy sound.
ОтветитьJimmy Page really dug this band, one of his favorites of era, you can hear some of
Led Zepellin III in this album.
Went to the Egyptian gardens just the other night
Saw a red headed lady was flat outta sight
Spent all my money honey to spend the rest of the night
And to watch her do that thing that they call.
Chorus:
Had happy horny snappy fingers at the end of the night
When some dude walks up to me and says thats mine, lets you and me
Fight
Pulled out my rosin and said baby have a bite and he went floatin
Off through the fog with that thing called.
So I traipsed up to the red head and said gee babe but your nice
She smiled and stuck her arm through mine and said Sol, baby say it
Twice
Ever since I run that tomcat off me and her make out just like mice
Every time she do that thing that they call
Greek and Turkish influences there. Opa!
Ответитьwhy try? uh....
ОтветитьDavid Lindley was great in this band.
.
Fairuza Balk's father wrote this. Lol... go figure.
ОтветитьSaw them. Filmore west. 1968 or so. Brought the house down.
ОтветитьI swear by this song. Like Creedence Clearwater Revival plays down-home music, this song is down-home music, Middle Eastern style. When stoned, the traditional parts of this tune send me to a place in some fabled past where Aladdin and Ali Baba exist as real as you or me. All thumbs, fingers and toes up for this one.
ОтветитьThe singer sounds a bit like rocky Erickson
ОтветитьA VERY, VERY catchy album!!!
ОтветитьThe first world music lp, very ahead of its time.
ОтветитьLook up zomn
ОтветитьOne best tunes of all time ..I wanna see her do her ting
ОтветитьAnother happy accident! Glad I found this (while looking for Leonard Cohens backing singers).
Love this
Ответитьthey were cooked off that speed
ОтветитьOne of David Lindley's earliest works. David was the first musician of known record to take a Violin Bow to His electric guitar, which inspired Jimmy Page to do the same. Page would often cite the Kaleidoscope as being his favorite band!
ОтветитьWhat to say? That they reached that oriental taste that a lot of bands was looking for? They actually got it!
Talently skilled musicians who played "world music " in the glorious psychedelic years
RIP David Lindley 3/3/2023
ОтветитьNow David Lindley, Chris Darrow, and Solomon Feldthouse have died. I love Kaleidoscope's music and hope you all love it too.
