Viofo A229 Pro Dash Cam Review: The Best 4k Dashcam?

I have a Ford Bronco with this dash cam with the hardwire kit and a Bronco sport with the a129 with hardwire kit.

Both while running, it records great, my problem comes in the form of parking mode.

I have tried auto detection and low bit. High detection, high sensor.
Once I turn the engine off it briefly goes into park mode it shuts off and nothing is recorded.
For both cars I get nothing once off.

I need to know how long the wire is that runs from the main camera to the rear camera. And how long is the power cable that runs from the front camera to the power source (which will be under the front passenger seat for me)?

does the a229 use less energy if the GPS is turned off?

Nice, I got the A139 before the A229 was available. Going to install it this spring. I have the 3ch, but I will probably not use the interior cabin one, so really two ch, but who knows I could change my mind. In terms of using, what is the advantage of 2K 60fps vs 4k 30fps. Better reading of license plate? What do I lose by not having HDR selected??

why is the samsung pro endurance not recommended? what is the issue?

Not sure why but i can not see the live view on my phone. Updated firmware to latest and i do have the 3 channel 229pro. Card inside the dash cam is a "SanDisk 64GB High Endurance Video C10, U3, V30" . Also if i try to play clips right there on my phone they do not play. Have Iphone 14 pro max. Thanks for any help.

The Viofo A229 Pro is currently the best dashcam on the market. Better than Vantrue, and definitely better than Nextbase.

The impact test was stupid, maybe tap the bumper or something other than the windshield...

@SafeDriveSolutions I have the A229 Pro. I've recently got round to trying out the parking mode. I'm finding that it records nearly all the time. I will take a look at the firmware updates to see if that improves things. I've also noticed that the video resolution keeps dropping down to 2k and from this video realised it's because I've switched on parking mode. When the video is operating in driving mode, is the resolution meant to revert back to 4k, because I'm finding it always remains 2k which is annoying? Thanks

Temperature. What is the safe temperature rating for Viofo A229. I live in Phoenix Arizona where temperatures in the cab can reach 140 °F.

I logged in just to leave a thank you comment! This channel by far gives such an easy walk through with great examples of the pros and cons of each dash camera. I am completely torn on the A229 and the A139. One does better in the day, and captures the plates a little better, and the previous model captures the night time better of plates and street signs. Is it because of the higher FPS that the A139 does a better job of legible signs and plates at night?

it's not a 4k camera when rear camera is active.

Can the A229 firmware be updated using WiFi from the app or does the SD card need to be removed and the update downloaded on the SD card, similar to the previous model?

You didn’t mention anything about the external lens for the front camera. It is supposed to help reduce glare on rainy nights and improve license plate clarity. Did you use it for these tests?

Nice tutorial video, but I want real test in hot weather, if it can withstand this or shut off.

also can you adjust the brightness of the 229 pro screen? also can you have the screen stay on while recording?

Not impressed with the Viofo A229 Pro. I've been using one for over a week. I keep sampling videos (front & rear cameras) from the A229 Pro and licence plates are clear enough to read only when directly in front of the camera at less than 20 feet. Even slightly off center and they are blurry and almost unreadable. Updated the software and no change. Sent Viofo customer service sample videos and they said the views were normal. Is it asking too much to actually see license plates?

So what do you think is the best between N4 pro and A229? And what do you recommend?

Have used the Viofo A229 Duo in a small hatchback for two years with two kids learning to drive and it’s been great. Looking at the A229 Pro 3 channel for a different car now.

So I cannot use Parking Mode even if I have continuos power through my cigarette lighter port even when the Vehicle is off?

can we power up the a229 pro with any USB C given there is enough power? i bought vantrue hardwire kit, but my vantrue dashcam is missing. so, i may buy a229 pro instead

I got to my car after leaving parking mode with low bitrate recording 2 channels a229 plus, and my car is not opening in terms of electricity also
I had my camera hardwired to the car battery with the hardwire kit with 12.4 V setting I think, what could be the reason for this happening?

I have the Vantrue N4. I’m trying to upgrade to the Viofo A229 Pro. Am I able to use the existing hardwire from my Vantrue onto the Viofo? They both use USB-C to connect to the main dashcam. I would assume it’s ok, but I want to make sure.

excellent review, i watched your comparison videos and i am leaning towards A229 pro. Two questions, 1) can the display be switched off permanently 2) Can all the setting be accessed and updated via the app?

If I update the firmware will I have to go through and set all the settings again or will it save them to the internal memory of the dash cam?
