The Oculus Quest 2 is a Homebrew Legend

Hella people are letting me know that my network setup is probably not fit for running AirLink. Here's my setup if you want to investigate further:

- 2.5Gb NIC on my PC wired with CAT6 directly to my 1Gb router
- Router is a NETGEAR Nighthawk X4 C7500 quad antenna with both 2.4GHz & 5GHz
- Quest is on the 5GHz network, along with 4 or 5 other devices
- Everything I listed is within an 8ft radius of one another

My thinking is that my 5GHz band may be too busy with the other devices that are connected. I also live somewhere with like 20,000,000 WiFi signals bouncing around from other people all the time. I did set my channel to be one of the lesser-used ones, but it's still pretty crowded.

Would a dedicated WiFi 6 AP with nothing else connected to it but the Quest drastically improve performance? It's really the only solution I can think of (other than using Virtual Desktop, which I'll probably just do instead).

I finally pulled the trigger on a used Quest 2 that I got for $100 since it was missing the facemask (works for me, why would I want someone else’s sweaty facemask?) and I have to say, it’s pretty cool

Did you ever fix your issues with pcvr on it cus i got an og oculus quest 2 and ive never gotten good pcvr. I got a msi 1660 super twin frozr 7, 32g ddr4 3200mhz, r7 5700x. It smooth asf on my screen but in the oculus its dogshit lol

If you want to use PCVR, you can use virtual desktop or the native steam VR with the steam VR app on your quest two for a smoother experience but will sacrifice visual quality

Air link works super smooth for me, full on PC graphics with no wire. All settings maxed

Just discovered your channel today with the sonic vid lol. For my quest 2 I got Remote Desktop before fb made air link and it works better for me than air link. Super cool with the psp games.

Every single one of these things works better on Q3 if anyone is watching this a year later. It’s incredible. Minecraft finally works there now too and is legit playable.

fyi for minecraft vr, I recommend playing with the scale to make it feel better.

Quest sends all the data over USBc as you can’t send DP over USB C so you have to compress it, which uses more processing power and its compression. Virtual desktop is just better (not sponsored)

Edit: you might be able to do Ethernet over UsB-C so it’s wired but I never tried it

USE THE QUEST LINK CABLE IF YOU RUN PC GAMES ON THE QUEST 2 (its waaaay better on the quest 3)

I know this comment is a year late but the way quest link works is it transfers the code for the video and not the video signal itself, pretty dumb way of doing it but it works

How close can you get to Oculus Quest 2 experience by just sticking your Android phone in a cardboard box?

As a occasional quest 2 user, airlink and the cable link suck cause its loading the oculus dash ontop of the steam dash, which is so stupid. I use steam link on it now and its 100x better, still can have slight bitrate issues but yeah.

Can someone pls sell me their oculus quest 2 for $250 aud bc I sold mine for ar glasses and I regret it 🙏🙏🙏

i realise im a year late, but there is a mod called Vivecraft for Minecraft Java edition which is PCVR yes, (you experienced a similar thing which can run on mobile) but the PCVR one is WAYYY more polished, has mod support, shader support etc, and is just generally a much better time

i saved up for like a month to get one and TWO arrived and now my brother gets a free headset lol

I used to own an original oculus quest 2 with no fucking Meta logo but I sold it once I got my quest 3. I’m starting to regret not keeping it :(

using the oculus app on the app and steam vr app. Seems to run fine.

the google services thing, i remember i was stuck with a crappy huawei y6p i made alot of memories on that phone but it had poor specs and no google play but then like at my last 3 months of using it before it had bugs where the screen just crapped out and had to wait 10mins for it to come back on and not judt show a black screen with bdcklight, i remember on the huawei appstore there being an app called gbox or smth, and pretty sure that when i saw a modern samsung tablet at a best buy typa store it had that app preinstalled maybe it will work here

the newer wireless vr steamvr is actually 100% better than airlink, i get better preformance out of it and it's not blurry, but dont use wireless if you got bad wifi it will be a bad experience

VMOS was a good app a few years ago. I've got no clue what happened but I know for sure Android 11 changed the way apps can access the data folder which introduced some issues with the app freezing and it was just downhill from there.
