My sincere thanks to Dr. Berry @KenDBerryMD for being willing to come on and have this conversation. He didn't have to but he was genuinely happy to do it. Hopefully this cordial, respectful evaluation of different views based on scientific evidence helps viewers achieve clarity and make informed decisions.

There is not a damn thing wrong with Oates. Don't know where this man come from attacking Oates and assuming Oates is poor people food. I love my oates, in fact I'm eating some Oates now. Tired of these so called health food experts trying to cancel out even healthy foods like Oates.

I was eating oatmeal for breakfast for about 3 months and with very little sweetener. My triglycerides doubled. That’s the only thing I did different! I stopped eating it and I will be doing my. Lord test soon to see if it was the culprit!

Humans didn't always eat meat. If you are truly doing complete research, then why haven't you mentioned the biblical account of nutrition in the old testimint of the christian bible??? Leviticus 11 is the beginning of meat eating, and then in the New Testament, God lifts all restrictions (1 Corinthians 10:25-26). the question is when was Leviticus 11 written? I will let you look that up

This reminds me of a story of an English noble man, who in a despariging way told a Scotsman that the English feed oats to their horses and the Scots eat outs. The wise Scot said that's why the Scotds have such great people and the English have great horses.

Oats are one of my worst worst worst foods... even though I love oats. In horses they are used to fatten and often overexcite the horse. Making them hyper and jumpy.
Well they do all that to me plus give me horrible bloating, reflux, anxiety through the roof. Rushing to the loo from the fibre (which scrapes all the way through). Have tried reintroducing many times and am left in zero doubt. I'll never eat oats again.

Why can't our politics conversations go so well? I loved oats both savory and sweet, always old fashioned or steel cut. I always needed/wanted a nap after. I am still willing to use the rest of my oats in some delicious occasional cookies.

If you are worried about glucose spike, eat some Proteins and or low carb veggies first. This will slow down the Oats absorption. Also go for a walk right after you eat Oats or any carb heavy meal.

I was able to cure my peripheral nephropathy eating oats for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 1 month I was in so much pain, it felt like I was walking on glass. Now no more pain and its been years. The Canadian journal of disables show a dramatic improvement after just a week or so on a oats only diet. Needless to say you can't eat just oats for ever.

In Scotland, whose climate in general is too wet to grow a lot of wheat, oats were traditionally eaten in the form of porridge and oatcakes.
An Englishman, sneering at this sign of relative poverty, said, 'In England oats are food for horses, not men', to which came the reply, 'And where will you find such horses - and such men?'.
I still think that oatcakes are the accompanied of choice for cheese.

As a two-year carnivore who was able to reverse auto immune disease, fix my decades long digestive issues and lose weight, I will freely admit that Gill easily won this debate hands-down. Dr. Barry was extremely under prepared, and his arguments were less than convincing. In fact, they were silly at times. This was a great video and overall a very well presented debate. Thank you gentlemen…

Meat in contact with the gut biome causes high levels of Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO). TMAO is a contributor to heart disease

Neu5Gc (the sugar in the flesh of mammals we eat) is toxic. Humans do not have Neu5Gc. Our bodies treat it as a foreign invader and attacks it triggering toxic immune reaction which is cause of cancer.

I eat raw oats flakes, the heavy kind I don’t cook them I put them in a bowl with Chia seeds walnuts almonds dried mulberries and some xylitol for sweetening, and pour boiled water over them, let it sit,and enjoy at any time of day. I have been doing this for many years and it does not bother me at all unless of course you’re talking about processed oat flakes or oatmeal which I think is crap Ola but I don’t think that oats in its purest form are really that bad for you or bad at all to tell the truth. On another note I think that one of the most dangerous foods out there is rice cakes, nobody realizes that the rice cake has a higher glycemic than sugar it is deadly!

Dr Berry is so wrong about his 'PHD' it's embarrassing. People didn't eat cows in many countries till they were introduced, also they ate leaves and nuts and berries and tubers and carbohydrates of all sorts. many people eat oats and are old and healthy. Silly argument. If they don't agree with you as they don't with me, don't eat them.

Oats are a nutritional powerhouse with numerous health benefits. Rich in fiber, particularly beta-glucan, oats can help lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease.

They also aid in blood sugar control, making them beneficial for people with diabetes. The high fiber content promotes digestive health and can assist with weight management by increasing feelings of fullness. Oats contain important vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, including unique compounds called avenanthramides, which have anti-inflammatory properties.

Regular consumption of oats may support gut health, boost the immune system, and even help reduce the risk of childhood asthma. With their versatility and nutritional profile, oats are an excellent addition to a balanced diet for overall health improvement.

I don't know if anyone will read this, but I enjoyed the discussion a lot. I would love to see a sequel. Speaking as someone following a Dr. Greger-ish diet, I wish you could somehow talk to him too. His advice works well for me but sometimes I am dubious of some of his claims, like that oatmeal will reverse insulin resistance. Thankfully I don't have insulin resistance anyway, meaning I can just enjoy both Greger's pithy jokes and eating oats. However all of us probably have friends/family/etc who have diabetes or high blood pressure and are confused by the contradicting messages on social media.

As a Scotsman soon to be 90 years old, I have eaten porridge oats all my life. I don't disagree with Dr Berry. I believe the devil is in the dosage I limit mine to about half a cup of oats plus a teaspoon of salt some times nuts or berries and fruit. also milk or yogurt. However I have trouble with high blood pressure, but love my porridge.
