I don’t find their emotionality baffling at all. They stepped into a space that most of us commenting will never experience. They look human to me. I refuse to comment on anyone’s body. I’m so bored with that mindset and concern. They are living in the moment - they both were able to reconnect with their inner child during this process. If you’ve ever done any shadow work and stepped back into that scared space - emotions will flow. Until you’ve experienced that, you just won’t understand. And that’s ok.

This project actually means something to these ladies. They loved the Broadway show. They wanted these parts. They were up against top Hollywood actresses and they got the call. They worked hard to make sure they nailed these beloved parts because of the judgmental fans who would rip them to shreds if they messed it up. They killed it, but people like you still want to bring negativity to a project that has brought so much joy to people… including myself. So, the only thing you got is their emotional interviews… really bitch? That’s what you’re going with? Pathetic. Rather you’re miserable in your own lives or you have a problem with the casting… one of them in particular. There are real fucking problems in the world and you focus on this? Get a fucking life.

The movie is important. I grew up gay and in the church and musicals were a way for me to escape. And to see a production that speaks to the pain and extreme isolation is emotional. A lot of theater kids grew up gay in high school or in emotionally abusive homes. That’s why there’s so much emotion. It’s a therapeutic experience for so many of us to see that represented in a huge production like this, because our voices have always been so small. It’s hard to understand it if you haven’t felt that anguish. So while you may look down your nose and sneer at the weird emotional interviews, a lot of us with more than room temperature IQs realize what this movie actually represents.
