Subbed bc of this video, this VS has been plauging my brain
ОтветитьThe long range craze is giving false confidence to guys that shoot half a box of ammo the weekend before the season and head to the woods/mountains. Guys are reading these BC charts, looking at the fps on a box, cranking a turret and shooting 800yds+ at animals. If you barely shoot, it doesnt matter which one you buy. If you shoot a lot and handload, it also doesn't matter which one you buy. Both guns are capable of killing anything that walks out to distances beyond most peoples skill levels.
ОтветитьSo basically they 300 prc is a better hunting round.....I don't see any disadvantages or the prc over the win mag...
ОтветитьSo pretty much sticking with my 300 wm lol.
ОтветитьThank you!
ОтветитьI am tired of all this...I want something different..How about a Semi Automatic Musket😂
ОтветитьGreat video, the PRC takes over in the High BC bulletin weights unless u have a fast twist barrel on the 300 win mag. I also find less recoil with the PRC or at least less violent muzzle rise
ОтветитьRon, I would like to purchase a scope for long range shooting. Is there a method to test the magnification to insure you are getting what you pay for otherwise you don’t know for certain?
ОтветитьWhat’s crazy about the 300 PRC is that it’s right there with 300 rum. But it uses less powder. For example. Noslers load data shows that if you use 79.5 grains of Hodgdon h1000 powder. You can throw a 210 grain from the 300 PRC at about 2,960 FPS. In the 300 rum you have to load 91 grains of h1000 to get a 210 grain moving at 2,980.
Not to mention it’s plenty ethical for hunting.. there are loads for the 300 PRC that produce more energy at 500 yards than a 6.5 creedmoor does at the muzzle. 💀 sorry creedmoor fanboys.
There are many good new calibers, but not good enough to compete with the established cartridges.
ОтветитьArmy SF snipers are shooting 300 win mags 1 mile in their course how many times are you going to try and re-create the wheel it’s all marketing BS
And you join in
Very very close. For now I’ll keep my win mag simply due to availability of ammo.
ОтветитьQuestion I have which would have more knock down power on game at long hunting distance?
ОтветитьWhat about energy delivery down range? I would imagine that the significantly larger bullets would deliver more energy on target. Part of the appeal to me seems to be the option to shoot a 250 grain bullet at a lower speed that theoretically should yield more energy transfer on target.
Ответить300 PRC does everything 300 win mag and more.
It almost I said ALMOST comes to 338 lapua range. With a bit less recoil.
I think the best elk cartridge is 7 PRC. Only because flatter and less recoil.
Ive seen 220's popped out of prc at 3000fps. Easy. 2875 is conservative.
ОтветитьI run the Tikka T3x lite in 300wm but I shoot the ELDX 178g and I am pushing 2960fps. Watching this video I feel that I am getting those 300prc benefits without going precision. Is there a benefit with going up to the 220g? I have shot them before but I couldn't get the tight groupings that I get out of the 178g.
ОтветитьThe issue with prc is if used for targets, you probably shoot more than most. Great for improving your talent, but if you check, prc barrels have half the life of said non prc calibers.
ОтветитьIt would seem there is still not a lot of rifles offering 300 PRC. At least the rifles I have looked at.
ОтветитьYou’ve just explained that the prc shoots heavier bullets more accurately then concluded to stick to the wm for hunting and the prc for targets… definitely propaganda. I like your channel Ron but I really notice that you are pretty slick with the gentle way of trying to manipulate people to keeping the old cartridges around 😂
ОтветитьI heard about the 7mmPRC...but its just a necked up 6.5PRC. I wanna see a .300PRC necked down to 7mm...
ОтветитьI have had my PRCs for 4 yrs Now. (Just gave my grandson my other one i had) The Biggest haters of the PRC is the Win mag crowd. I didn't have a ELR gun the PRC fits that need. Many have so much invested in the Win mag and I get it. Thus why they stick with it. And it has worked for their needs. The reasons I have it are as follows
1) Use of BC bullets allows you to do more with less no need for 3000fps velocities
2) Longevity of barrel and components
the PRC barrel life is 3500+(this goes back to efficiency and tighter tolerances) Vs the win mag at 1200-1500. Reloading Brass
Win Mag. Brass is about two to three reloads and thats it. I have several PRC cases with 5-6 reloads so far to date. As I reload all mine
My needs for the rifle wasnt hunting but it can be used as such. IMO, In the end if you don't care about replacing the barrel and brass. The the Win mag is your best choice. But if you want to reach out there efficiently the PRC is the ticket.
This was a very disingenuous review, you basically said that a cartridge created 60 yrs ago with different design parameters, modified to max capacity, pushed to it's limits would be the equivalent of a new cartridge as it is rolled off the assembly line for production. That's the equivalent of saying a Honda civic is the same as a Camaro all you have to do is put a LS1 motor under the hood, put in a 6spd, and a new suspension. I understand what you were saying but you're comparing apples to oranges.
ОтветитьThe PRC was not invented for the handloader. In FACTORY APPLICATIONS. meaning FACTORY SPECS and FACTORY RIFLE SPECS (tight chamber & twist). The win mag is ONLY better in price and variety of ammo. in performance... its not close.. AT ALL. everybody knows this even the handloader. There are like 3 factory ammo 245 eol berger sold going 2800 under 3.7. What is a factory WM round gonna do under 3.34 with a 245 berger, 212 , 220, 225 eld, 210 ABLR???? And outside of a xbolt LR how many factory fifles come with 1:9 or faster twist rate??? The PRC is better than the WM. The 7 PRC is better than the 7 Rem(in factory applications). Except price. On the table he is displaying FACTORY rounds. If you reload.. the WM is almost equal to what you can do if you reload to a PRC. Comparing a WM deveoped load(longer than 3.34) to a PRC factory load is just childish.
ОтветитьIt’s crazy, PRC is cheaper than 300 WM now.
Ответить300 win mag is king for that length of action and I think always will be. It’s also very versatile. I hunt with the 300wm and I absolutely love it!
ОтветитьHow is it recommended to go with a round less accurate than .300 PRC for hunting? Enjoy your videos, Ron. Nonetheless, I’m not hearing / seeing the logic here ….?
ОтветитьGreat video. Super helpful!
Ответить300prc to a 300winmag, is like comparing 6.5 creedmoor to a 308😆
ОтветитьNow that the Marines adopted the .308 Norma Mag that is what I would buy.
ОтветитьHey Ron! I want to get into the sport of long range shooting and possibly hunting later on down the road. I’m looking towards 300 prc but what kind of rifle would you recommend? I’m kind of looking at the Springfield Boundary but that’s more tailored for hunting not long range target what would be a good hybrid and would you recommend? I appreciate any info thank
ОтветитьI’m not a long range shooter but this seems like a lot of effort for very minimal gain
ОтветитьI think you have to go above the 225 grainers before you start running into stabilization problems out of a 10 inch twist.
ОтветитьNice video. I’d have liked to see 300RUM in that chart, just as a reference.
ОтветитьThanks a lot! I learned some insight from you.
ОтветитьSo essentialy the 300 PRC has no reason to exhist and does absolutel ynothing that the 300WM does not already do. 300 PRC brass is propritary and more expensive and has fewer vendors. You have less options for factory ammo. There are fewer rifles new and used chambered for it than the 300WM. Plenty of custom reamers exist to improve the neck and throat of the now ancient 300WM with out preventing the use of factory ammo.
Ответить300WSM
ОтветитьThey both kick like a mule with those 220 grainers.
Ответить300prc has less recoil, better balistics, more kenetic energy, and all around better. 300 win mag is a fantastic round, and 300 prc does it better.
ОтветитьFor 99 percent of hunters the old 300 is still better . Ammo everywhere
ОтветитьI like the fact that the 300 prc is out.great caliber, the 300 mag is a great caliber.i have them both.but there is a noticeable difference between the two calibers, enough to justify having one for sure.the old days of controlling calibers, and gun accuracy is gone. Its been needed for a long time.6.5 prc,7mm prc,300 prc,6arc is another great choice.
ОтветитьRight now, the WM and the PRC are almost the same in availability
ОтветитьI have a 300wm ....the 300 PRC will not make the 300WM obsolete .For hunting i would never buy a 300prc unless you reload, Otherwise all you going to get is target bullets ... or maybe a eldx. Think about it if your are hunting Kodiaks up in Alaska do you want a 300prc loaded with ELDX or Bergers...no you want a 300WM 180gr-200gr Noslers or barnes. you can buy at the store. The 300 WM is the king of the 30 cals
ОтветитьRon i know you are a watched expert. But i have to disagree, the 300 WM wins every time unless you reload then you may get 50ft sec difference
ОтветитьHaha. Never heard of any long range issues with a Win mag.... well, an uncle had a rifle that he had a f%$$@ of a time finding a load it liked. That was a M70. A friend had a KS custom M700 that was worse. Wasn't ever the cartridge that was the problem. The sub caliber neck isn't actually a problem, unless just looking at the charts. Neither is the belt when chambered/sized properly. On that note, the PRC is a better modern design. And I always recommend it to anybody that handloads. Even though they don't take my advice. Seems the long range crowd prefers a 6.5CM.
ОтветитьI am not a PRC fanboy but I see a lot of BS in this comments section. If the comments section had its way, we would still be in caves cooking over a fire "no need to innovate".. "ballistics are close enough"... I see a lot of older aged individuals harping on the only thing 300 wm has over the PRC... bullet selection. Yes the 300wm is a great cartridge. BUT is the 300 PRC better in literally every category other than bullet options... YES. I am shocked people are still buying a belt in 2025! "you know what, ill take the model A" said literally no-one. "300wm is just as precise" yeah, when you space off the neck with a custom reamer and new barrel... "not a lot of bullet selection" So Federal, Hornady, Berger, Barnes, Norma, and Weatherby are not enough? How much selection do you need? "life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving" Albert Einstein.
ОтветитьSpending a hefty sum on custom rifle meant for lr shooting, I consider other choices. 30 cal, I think the norma fits me when it comes to 30 cal, and I favor the 8.5 twist with 250 A tips. Great comparison tnx.
Ответить300 RUM.
ОтветитьWhen I saw "PRC" in the title the first thing I thought about was "People's Republic of China", so I HAD to watch this video to see what THAT was all about.. 😂 It would be interesting to see handloading data for this - those heavy bullets and large powder capacity would mean a really slow powder. Beltless magnum diameter case - sounds like they've created a new parent case for the wildcatters out there.
