ABSTRACT

"The purpose of this study is to explore pre-service primary school teachers’ mental images of teaching in their future classrooms. The data of the study were collected from one hundred eighty-one pre-service teachers participated in the study. A modified version of Draw a Science Teacher Checklist was used to collect the data of the study. The results of the study revealed that 64.64% of pre-service teachers have explicit, 14.92% of them have conceptual and 20.44% of them have exploratory teaching style. No significant association (χ2 = 1.823, sd = 1, p = .40) was found between gender and teaching style. A significant association (χ2 = 64.438, sd = 3, p = .00) was found between grade level and teaching style. The third and the fourth year students are more willing to use exploratory teaching style than the first and second grade students. "
